Abstract
A lot of safety accidents that occur in schools are related to first aid. First aid is one of the most basic behaviors that one must learn in life.
Since students spend most of their day time at school, safety accidents of students are frequently occur at school and teachers have to deal with them. It is same for special schools and special classes where disabled students are.
Therefore, the purpose of this study is to study on the special education teachers’ state of first aid education completion, knowledge level and abilities to cope with emergency situations. For this purpose, the actual condition of first aid education completion, first aid knowledge level, emergency response ability and requirements for first aid training of special education teachers were investigated. This study conducted an online survey targeting regular teachers of special schools and special teachers of regular schools. Finally, a total of 132 data were used for analysis.
The conclusion of this study is as follows. During first aid, the knowledge level and coping ability of CPR were high. However, other first aid methods were not as well known as CPR. Therefore, even if the first aid training is conducted once a year or once per semester, a positive effect can be seen if the first aid training is systematically established and if it is changed to educational content suitable for emergencies that have occurred a lot in the field rather than formal first aid education content.
Based on the results of this study, in the event of an emergency for disabled students, take appropriate methods based on the level of knowledge so that the situation does not get worse.
