- Abstract
- I. Introduction
Root coverage in the mandibular anterior area is challenging because of a thin gingival biotype, shallow vestibule, and high frenum attachment. Several methods have been introduced for root coverage in this area such as coronally advanced flap only, sub- epithelial connective graft only, combination of sub-epithelial connective graft and coronally advanced flap, partially deepithelialized connective tissue graft(PE-CTG). The aim of this study was to compare two different root coverage on lower anterior teeth using partially deepithelialized connective tissue graft (PE-CTG)
II. Materials and Methods
This study was conducted on 18 patients(20 teeth) with lower anterior teeth recession. 18 patients were divided into 2 groups ; In group 1 (tPECTG), recipient site was prepared with sulcular incision. Thereafter, a supraperiosteal tunnel was made. In group 2 (vPECTG), recipient site was prepared using vestibular incision subperiosteal tunnel access(VISTA) technique. In both group, the partially epithelialized connective tissue was harvested from the hard palate using high-speed handpiece. After 6 months, vertical recession(Rec), keratinized tissue(KT) is evaluated in each group.
III. Results
The mean root coverage was 87.9% in the tPECTG group and 89.8% in the vPECTG group. The gain in KT was 3.94 ± 1.74 mm in tPECTG group and 3.17 ±1.03 mm in vPECTG group. ; no statistically significant difference was found between the two groups for all of these parameters (P>0.05).
IV. Conclusion
Within the limitations of this retrospective case series, vPECTG is as effective as tPECTG but easier. Moreover, in both groups, the keratinized gingival width is increased and the mucogingival junction is maintained.
