Abstract
In the era of the fourth industrial revolution, the world is striving to foster future talent, and this trend has led to the importance of SW education. Already, the world is introducing and implementing SW education, and their common goal is to foster future talent with competitiveness within each field. Ultimately, comprehensive education in each field should be conducted so that students can recognize their career paths based on the right values.
This study conducted on the premise that SW education promotes computing thinking and creative problem solving skills in middle school students. The purpose of the study is to examine the impact of other studies on academic achievement and the degree of SW-related career hopes.
In order to achieve the purpose of the study, the data was collected for about two weeks from Oct. 5 to Oct. 16 for 400 third graders at A Middle School in Gwangju Metropolitan City.
The results of this study are as follows.
First, SW-related career orientation of middle school students who received SW education improved SW education preference and SW career information depending on the SW education experience period, and SW-related career orientation also improved as the coding ability level and SW education awareness increased. Therefore, SW education can be seen as having a positive impact on the career orientation of middle school students.
Second, SW education has been shown to have a positive impact on middle school students' academic performance. Comparison before and after depending on SW coding ability level shows that different academic achievements are also affected by students' coding ability level.
Third, the relationship between academic achievement and career orientation has a positive impact on each other. Given that the impact of subsequent academic achievement on SW-related career orientation has been higher than before, SW education has had a positive impact on SW-related career orientation as well as improvement in academic performance.
In the future, SW education in various ways should grow students' computing thinking and creative problem solving skills, foster customized talents for the times, and provide the right career direction.
