Abstract
Objective: Malnutrition is a common problem in critically ill patients. The purpose of this study was to measure importance and performance of EN and investigate the factors associated with performance of EN among staff nurses in intensive care units.

Methods: The 224 staff nurses working in intensive care units of three university hospitals were surveyed by closed ended questionnaires using scoring system about importance and performance of EN, general characteristics. The analysis were divided into recommended A grade group and recommended A+B grade group. The factors associated to performance of EN were analyzed with multiple linear regression.

Results: The A grade group score of importance and performance of EN were 4.10 ± 0.49 and 4.02 ± 0.47, respectively. The A+B grade group score of importance and performance of EN were 4.13 ± 0.48 and 4.02 ± 0.46, respectively. In multiple regression analysis, A grade group the level of performance of EN was significantly lower in nurses who 3 years to less than 6 years clinical career compared to nurses who less than 1 year clinical career(ß=-0.17, p=0.019). The level of importance was higher, performance of EN better(ß=0.71, p<0.001). And selection and preparation of nutritional supplements(ß=0.13, p=0.003), medication administration in EN(ß=0.21, p<0.001), EN in various situations of importance were higher, performance of EN better(ß=0.13, p=0.001). The A+B grade group Level of importance was higher, performance of EN better.(ß=0.75, p<0.001). And maintenance and management of EN(ß=0.23, p=0.001), monitoring EN administration(ß=0.14, p=0.003), EN in various situations of importance were higher, performance of EN better(ß=0.10, p=0.002).

Conclusion: The performance of EN was associated with the subjective health status, clinical career, experience of education for the nutrition support, awareness of feeding bag & line, awareness of feeding pump, awareness of guidelines, awareness of protocols and the level of importance for the EN. So the level of performance of EN will be improved by supplying of devices and developing and supplying of guidelines and protocols, supplying of education, increasing of the level of importance for the EN.
