한진옥 호남검무의 전승현황과 보존가치에 관한 연구

Abstract

한진옥 호남검무는 전국 8도의 검무를 섭렵하였던 신갑도에게 검무를 사사받은 한진옥이 이를 체계적으로 정리하여 구성한 검무로, 호남지방의 지역색을 담고 있으며 궁중무용의 특성이 아닌 입춤사위, 살풀이 춤사위와 유사한 민속무용의 특성을 갖추고 있다. 한진옥 호남검무는 1974년 광주시립국악원에 입단한 김자연이 춤사범으로 재직중이였던 한진옥에게 사사받아 현재까지 그 명맥을 잇고 있는 호남지방의 전통춤이다. 한진옥의 호남검무에 관한 학술적 연구는 무보, 공연 양식 및 춤의 특성에 관한 선행 연구는 존재하지만, 현재까지 이어지는 한진옥 호남검무의 계보 및 전승에 관한 것과 춤사위의 미학적 분석에 대한 영역은 체계적으로 연구된 바가 없다. 이에 동기를 갖고 김자연이 사사 받은 한진옥 호남검무의 전승 현황과 춤사위의 미학적 분석을 통해 춤의 보존 가치에 대하여 이론적으로 정립하고자 하였다. 김자연은 현재 한진옥에게서 춤을 원형 그대로 직접 사사 받은 마지막 제자이며, 한진옥과 광주시립국악원에서 사범으로 활동하였던 서울시 무형문화재 제39호 아쟁산조 보유자 박종선의 고증으로 사실성을 확보하였다. 김자연의 정통성은 1993년에 국립문화재연구소에서 호남검무에 관한 조사로 한진옥의 제자 김자연을 취재하여 문화재 보고서에 기록한 것에서도 확인할 수 있다. 이러한 김자연의 정통성을 바탕으로 한진옥류 호남검무 보존회가 호남검무를 원형 그대로를 보존‧전승하는 양상과 지속적인 전승 활동을 조명하고자 하였다. 더하여 선행연구가 존재하지 않는 호남검무 춤사위의 미학 분석을 통해 호남검무만이 갖고 있는 고유한 가치를 밝혀내고, 보존의 가치를 규명하는 것이 본 연구의 목적이다. 연구는 1차 문헌 연구와 2차 인터뷰 및 구술자료의 수집으로 진행되었는데, 한진옥 호남검무의 전승현황은 한진옥류 호남검무 보존회의 소장자료와 김자연의 면담 및 자문으로 대부분 이루어져 있으며, 호남검무의 미학적 분석을 위해 한국 여기검무의 지역적 특징을 연구한 임수정의 논문과 호남검무를 무보중심으로 연구한 정미선의 논문을 집중적으로 참고하였다. 한진옥 호남검무는 검무의 특징인 웅장하고 진취적인 성격과 호남검무 특유의 아기자기하면서도 섬세한 성격을 가진 동작들이 있으며 이를 담백한 춤사위로 자아낸다. 도드리 장단의 ‘한삼 춤사위’에서 긴 한삼을 이용한 민속무용인 승무와 유사성을 보이는 춤사위와, 허튼타령 장단의 ‘맨 손 춤사위’의 ‘숙은 사위(앉은 사위)’나 손목을 떨구는 동작에서 살풀이춤과 유사성을 보이는 춤사위가 특징적이다. 춤의 대형에서 우주 만물은 ‘음(陰)과 양(陽)의 이원적 구조가 공존하며 조화(調和)와 상생(相生)을 이루어내며 생겨난다’는 ‘음양(陰陽)의 원리’와, 춤의 동작에서 ‘하늘과 땅 그리고 그 사이의 인간이 합일(合一)하여 우주만물이 하나가 된다’는 ‘천지인(天地人)합일 사상’이 담긴 미학적 요소들을 찾을 수 있었다. 한진옥의 호남검무는 춤사위의 구성에 있어 완성도가 높으며, 향토적이고 기교적이며 철학적인 동작들로 구성되어 있다. 이는 비교될 수 없는 호남검무만이 갖고 있는 고유한 특성이며, 호남검무가 호남지방에서 전승되는 고유한 문화유산으로서 마땅히 보존되어야 할 가치를 지닌 전통춤이라는 것을 의미한다. 이를 위한 지역 차원의 관심과 노력, 한진옥 호남검무 계승자들의 지속적이고 주체적인 전승의지로서 보존을 이어나가야 할 것이다.|Han Jin-ok's Honam sword dance ,systematically organized by Han Jin-ok who learned from the sword dance master, Shin Gap-do well-versed in sword dances from eight provinces nationwide, well represents particular traits of Honam province and has attributes similar to a folk dance like 'ibchumsawi' or 'salpuri' rather than royal court dance. Han Jin-ok' Honam sword dance has been around even today after Kim Ja-yeon who joined Gwangju Korean Traditional music orchestra, learned from Han Jin-ok who was a dance teacher by then. Research on Han Jin-ok's Honam sword dance has not been diverse nor in- depth compared to the value that it has. Motivated to study more, it is designed to discuss and theoretically organize pedigree and sheds light on how it has been handed down and the preservation value that Honam sword dance has. Kim Ja-yeon is the last disciple who learned and studied Honam sword dance directly from Han Jin-Ok. This pedigree has proved to be true with historical research from Park Jong-seon the performer of Ajaengsanjo ,Seoul Intangible cultural property No 39. He was a teacher along with Han Jin-ok at Gwangju Korean Traditional music orchestra. Kim ja-yeon's legitimacy can be found in the cultural heritage report which records Kim ja-yeon , a disciple of Han Jin-ok, as part of studies on Honam sword dance at National research institute of cultural heritage in 1993. Based on her legitimacy, this study sheds light on how preservation institute of Han Jin-ok's Honam sword dance has preserved original forms of the dance, marked pedigree and how it makes continuous efforts to hand down the Honam sword dance. In addition, this study is designed to identify unique value of Honam sword dance through aesthetic analysis and clarity the value to preserve Honam sword dance which was not previously studied. This study has been conducted through the first literature research and the second interview review. The research on how Han Jin-ok's Honam sword dance has been handed down has been conducted mostly through interviews and advice from Kim Ja-yeon and achieves from preservation institute of Han Jin-ok's Honam sword dance and for the purpose of aesthetical analysis, thesis has been intensively studied from Lim Su-jeong who researched local characteristics of Korean sword dance and Jeong Mi-seon who studied authentic Honam sword dance. Han Jin-ok's Honam sword dance is a traditional dance which well represents local trait of Honam province and contains particular mighty and progressive characteristics of Honam sword dance as well as delicate movements. Honam sword dance has some unique and similar dance movements to' hansam dance movement' with Dodeuli rhythms which uses long robe like in cham dance and to sitting movement in 'maenson' dance movement with 'heoteuntalyeong' rhythms and to shaking wrist movement in 'salpuri ' dance. In the dance formation, aesthetic elements can be found like Yin yang theory which views things in relation to its whole, based on two basic components which combine in a complementary manner and heaven, earth and humans theory which discusses harmonious relations and interaction of heaven, earth and human, in relation to its whole. The peak of sword dance is ' sword dance movement' which includes hard- to- express movements and shows the climax of the dance and it seems to be explosive but needs to be represented smoothly using breathing which requires long years of training. Han Jin-ok's Homan sword dance is highly well composed and contains various aesthetical movements. Such movement is uncomparable and it is the unique characteristic that only Homan sword dance can represent. Honam sword dance is worthy to be preserved as a cultural asset in Honam province and there should be extensive efforts followers should make to hand down the dance from the local and regional levels.
