ABSTRACT

A Study on the Orchestra Guidance Plan for Secondary Education with Arts PROPEL:
Focused on

The music education of Korea has been continuously changing to foster talented individuals with the changes of the times. 2015 Revised National Curriculum, which reflects recent social changes, has focused on creative education and independent learning. In addition, in the five-year comprehensive plan for humanistic education of the ministry of education, the student orchestra business has been settled as a sustainable business, not a one-off event. (Ministry of Education, 2016) Therefore, the issues often raised in the orchestra for students are the lack of systematic manuals and appropriate programs.
In the educational field, it is necessary to reconstruct contents according to educational situation and student level.
Particularly in musical performance activity such as student orchestra, researching and understanding according to specific application methods and students' cognitive development ability are required. It is difficult to plan or execute a music lesson without this process. Therefore, it is important to understand the characteristics and goals of the music curriculum, the contents of the curriculum and the achievement standards for the target students' learning ability.
The purpose of this study is to propose a method to apply Arts PROPEL's theory to actual class when teaching a student orchestra in a school. The Arts PROPEL theory, a cognitive approach to art education, consists of three stages of production, perception and reflection. Also the purpose of this study is to analyze the contents of the results obtained through this teaching method. For this purpose, we will look at the Arts PROPEL theory first and then see the applicable parts of orchestra performance. And I will suggest ways in which this theory can be applied to student orchestra classes. Based on this, i will analyze the records of student orchestra learning activities.
The subjects of this study were the after school orchestra classes of a middle school in Naju. The course of study will be divided into the domain project of Arts PROPEL and the actual course will be divided according to the project plan. The musical composition to be used in the guidance is Elgar's . This study aims at the final concert through the course of each class.
The composition of the guidance contents is divided into teaching method, learning goal, performance domain project, process folio, and preparations by each class.
This paper is an orchestral guidance planning study based on Arts PROPEL theory to meet the purpose of this education.
