- Abstract
- Art education in elementary school is to foster expression and appreciation ability and to improve emotional stability and creativity through the experience of creative craft art activity as the position of whole-rounded education. Nevertheless, children lack the opportunity of direct experience, which leads to lack of confidence for expression activities. To compensate this deficit, expression activities with clay can be a good material for positive mind and confidence. By using material with variability, children come to have feeling of space and forms when they touch the materials with their hands. While making solid works with clay, children perceive senses of forms, space, dimension and touch, understand not only themselves but also others during the process of shaping, and improve their thinking ability. In addition, children's personalities can be discovered in their works. In the instruction with modeling technique, teachers should function as an assistant for parts that children feel difficult for, and children should be the center of the actual composition.
The sculpture activity of forming shapes in the three dimensional space can improve sense of space.
The composition of this study is as follows.
First, the purpose, necessity, details and method of this study are suggested.
Second, the theoretical base of children's art education was researched through educational effects in the three dimensional modeling area and the three dimensional modeling activities based on reference literature and preceding studies.
Third, based on understanding of materials, the educational values were researched including maximization of learning effect, forming confidence and improvement of sociality and debating ability. Besides, specific instructional and learning methods were suggested to improve children's cubic expression ability through each stage's modeling expression with modeling technique.
Fourth, based on the result of class of instructional and learning methods, the effects on cubic expression ability of children were analyzed. Through classes, children came to have interest in art along with esthetics experience, expression areas and appreciation area. They also gained confidence. Beauty through experience in daily life could be expanded to artistic expression areas. Through cubic expression, aesthetic sense could be improved through improvement of modeling ability.
Based on this instructional and learning method, it is expected that modeling classes with clay can be performed well, so that children can improve their interest in cubic sculpture, enhance their self-expression ability, and contribute to whole-rounded education that can improve aesthetic sense, which is the ultimate purpose of art education.
