그림카드를 활용한 수업이 초등학생의 영어 어휘력과 학습 흥미도에 미치는 영향

Abstract

The purpose of this experimental study is to identify the effects of using picture cards in improving elementary school students' English vocabulary ability and learning interest. For this purpose, a total of 50 elementary school students were divided into two groups, an experimental group and a control group. The experimental instruction was given to 24 students over three weeks. In order to examine the effects of the experiment on the students' change in vocabulary learning and their interest in learning English vocabulary, students' pre- and post- tests scores on vocabulary were collected. In addition, students' responses to three surveys questionnaires were also gathered: pre- and post- questionnaires and students' vocabulary interest survey. There was statistically significant difference in the post-test mean scores(p < .05) between two groups. The results were as follows: First, The study showed that using picture cards positively and significantly affected the learners' vocabulary ability. Second, the teaching method using picture cards was effective for the students' interest in learning vocabulary. In conclusion, the results show that using picture cards can be a good learning method to enhance students' vocabulary ability. Further studies on the use of picture cards should be more widely developed by educational researchers and teachers to be efficiently applied to English education.
