Abstract
The purpose of this paper is comparing 『Hunmongjahoe』, a letter study material, with existing letter study materials in terms of the kinds and properties of arranging and containing character concerned about system and letter order of 『Hunmongjahoe』. This paper sees them from the educational aspect of language. This thesis investigates the research and task of educational aspect of language. To help understand the value and property of educational aspect of language which 『Hunmongjahoe』has, this study inquires 『Cheonjamun』, 『Yuhap』 and 『Shinjeungyuhap』 , the Chinese letter study materials in that period of history.
Although Chinese studying materials such as 『Cheonjamun』 and 『Yuhap』which had been imported from China were broadly used in 16th century as a means of literal education preceding sentence education, it is expectable that there were some resistance to the burden of study coming from literal learning and rote learning unrelated to using of native language.
There were several reasons why new study materials such as 『Hunmongjahoe』 were developed over many times.
This thesis is going to argue focusing on the fact that Choi Sejin constituted the study material in order to make it possible for language learners to experience meaningful language education.
This thesis refers to the research about Chinese study material, the representative precedent research on the literal education of Chosun Dynasty which is conducted by Kim Jongwoon.
This research conducted bibliographic study about the Chinese characters and Chinese study materials in a Chosun Dynasty era.
However, it failed to examine every idea about Chinese characters and the literal education influencing a composition of study materials and didn’t tell the difference between many study materials.
Now, there is a need to conduct a internal research in this wide range of precedent research.
In this regard, this thesis will conduct a research on methods and ideals of learning Korean and Chinese characters included in 『Hunmongjahoe』 throughout the process of restructuring Chinese study materials before 『Hunmongjahoe』.
