A Study on Sea Images of Jeong Ji-yong's Poetry

In this paper, we more focused sea poems of corresponding to the initial poems of Jeong ji-young, found out how to change the image of sea, thought that is what affects did throughout the life of the Jeong ji-young as a poet. Modernity-oriented of jung-jiyong is started from his family, hometown and his homeland. That leaving is formed sailing sea, returned by through a medium of sailing sea. In this process, Image of the sea that poet is faced with is not unified one code, influenced throughout his life. And we figured out that image of sea signified longing of open space. First image of the sea is fear about future and life of a poet advancing into the unknown. Students with family obligations and the revival of individual success is complicated on sail. Second image of the sea is energy of young and clearness commonly called freedom and romance. The early fearful sea is turned into relax. in a poetry, he break away from traditional ideas of sea and recover his clearness. A third make image of the sea about vital and mystery, reflect his more mature sense escaped from sensitive of literary youth, aimed at oriental inner spirit and poetry of faith. Advanced poetry of Jeong ji-young showed hunger for innocent state and showed also in the poem of the sea.|국 문 초 록

정지용 시의 바다 이미지 연구

이 논문의 목적은 정지용의 초기 시에 해당하는 바다 시들을 중심으로 바다에 대한 이미지가 어떻게 바뀌어갔으며, 그것이 그의 시작 생활 전반에 걸쳐 어떤 영향을 미쳤는가를 따져 보는데 있다. 정지용의 근대성 지향은 그의 가족과 고향, 조국을 떠나는 것에서 출발하고, 그 떠남은 바다의 항해를 통해서 이루어지며 또한 그 바다의 항해를 매개로 회귀하게 된다. 이 과정에서 시인이 맞닥뜨리게 되는 바다의 이미지는 결코 하나의 코드로 단일화 할 수 없었으며, 그의 시작 생활 전반에 걸쳐 어떤 형태로든 영향을 끼친다. 또한 바다의 이미지가 닫혀있는 공간에서 열려있는 공간으로의 동경을 나타냄도 함께 찾아볼 수 있다. 첫 번째의 바다 이미지는 미지의 세계로 나가는 시인의 미래와 삶에 대한 막연한 불안감과 두려움이다. 자기 개인의 입신양명은 물론이고 가문의 부흥에 대한 의무까지 짊어지고 떠나기 마련인 유학생의 심사는 항해 중에 더욱 착잡할 수밖에 없다. 두 번째의 바다 이미지는 자유와 낭만으로 통칭되는 젊음의 활기와 명랑함이다. 초기의 비장하고 두려웠던 바다에 대한 정서는 어느 일정한 시기가 지나면서 서서히 바뀌기 시작한다. 시에서도 전통적인 ‘바다’의 고정관념에서 탈피하여 유머와 위트가 끼어들고 명랑성을 회복하게 된다. 세 번째는 ‘바다’에서 낭만과 사랑, 외로움과 그리움 등 문학청년의 감상에서 벗어나 더 깊어지고 성숙된 그의 의식을 반영하듯 신앙 시와 동양적 정신 세계를 지향하는 신비와 생명력을 바다 이미지로 삼았다. 정지용의 후기 시에서 보이는 정적과 부동의 공간, 번잡한 일상에서 벗어나 깨끗하고 순결한 상태에 대한 집착 등을 바다 시에서도 보이고 있는 것이다.
