Abstract
As time goes by it has been important and strengthening in learning English in Korea. Especially in the 7th curriculum in Korean education which was standardized by Ministry of Education, it encourages students to study English in authentic and meaningful contexts for learners. Even though it has been focused on communicative language learning in authentic situation in the 7th curriculum, students who are studying for entering university in Korea tends to more concentrate on only reading abilities to solve the problem in texts.
This study is about managing ENIE(English Newspapers in Education) class with 3rd grade students of middle school and this class is for offering various meaningful reading materials to learners. Through this class, we want to find how they can study English by not common ways but new and interesting activities and materials. After about 3 months ENIE class, some questions were posed to find out the attitudinal changes of students in learning and improving English.
The result of ENIE class was a little bit unreasonable for positive effects of reading comprehension for only 30 students. Even the number of students in this class was not big enough to get reasonable result, the answers was quite positive in studying with English newspapers. So if we use English newspapers continually in real class or extra class as an authentic materials, we would be able to evaluate the effects ENIE class positively. Of course with offering learning materials and teaching methods based on teachers’ constant efforts and preparation for the class continually, we can get more effective and positive result in not only ENIE class but English reading.
