- Abstract
- This study analyzes the meaning aspects of English new words based on concepts of metaphor and metonymy; the structural, ontological and the orientational metaphors, and the 'part for whole' and 'whole for part' metonymies. And it also examines whether new words are influenced by social factors and cultural elements.
The results of study are as follows: It is observed that new words have conceptual structures of metaphor and metonymy as expected; it is also observed that new words reflect the relevant social factors and cultural elements.
