Analysis of the Relationship Between Science Exhibition Panel and the 2009 Revised Physics Curriculum

The purpose of this research is the analysis of the terms in exhibition panels related with the 2009 revised physics curriculum. The Gwang-Ju National Science Museum was selected because it presented the target grade in each panel. Terms in exhibition panels on physics contents were extracted and they had their own grades according to the national curriculum and textbook glossary.
There were 61 out of 104 exhibition panels in physics area at the National Science Museum and 3225 nouns except titles were totally extracted. Among them, 1088 individual nouns existed and each noun was repeated 2.964 times in average. Moreover, 1633 terms were in textbook glossary and 1766 terms in physics curriculum. The number of final objects for the analysis was 1468 totally, and the number of their sorts was 225. So each term was used 6.52 times per panel. To be specifically looking into frequency distribution of the usage of the term, the first place is light which used 176 times, the second place is object 59 times, third place is wavelength 45 times, and the fourth place is sound which used 40 times. Terms related with wave and optics such as light, wavelength, sound and so on were frequently repeated in the panels in Gwang-Ju National Science Museum whose theme was ‘light’. Analysis of curriculum corresponding grade in 3rd and 4th grade had the majority, followed by sophomore and junior courses in high school. In average, 24.07 physical terms used per panel. The average of target grades were 8.61 and the average, mode and median of corresponding grades were about 7. The difference between the target grades and representative value of corresponding grades was 1.65. The maximum average of corresponding grades of panels was 10.87 grade which meant the level of physics 1 course roughly.
In conclusion, target grade in panels and corresponding grade of curriculum had the difference. It means the necessity of modifying the targe grade in panels. Additionally, this framework would be used in analysing contents of other science museum and contribute to making the exhibition panels with considerations of national curriculum.
