Abstract

This study shows the concept and type of English imperative. And it analyzes syntactic and semantic structure. The main goal of this study is how to figure out error of imperative sentence of which people usually know by analysing the imperative sentence in a semantic way with syntactic derivation. Akmajian and Henry(1975) said that imperative sentence has been derived from the declarative sentence by imperative transformation. In the course of derivation of imperative, the subject you and modal verb will have been deleted. However, Bolinger(1977) explained that subject of imperative may not you by using reflexive pronoun. Furthermore, this study shown that the structure looks like the form of the imperative but it means but it means imperative of condition. We can recognize the difference between a conditional imperative with pure imperative sentence. Fianally, in case of general emphasize imperative, this study demonstrate through semantic analysis that it writes down do before the verb.
