Abstract
This study aims to study on effective English teaching for multiple class of 4th & 5th grade students units relating to each text book were selected to design the teaching/learning methods for direct instruction suitable to students. Through the surveys after the class of 20 min. direct instruction, 20 min. indirect instruction and 40 min direct instruction, students were surveyed which class was prefer to find better ways for effective teaching.
Selected research questions were as follows according to the necessity and purpose of research as described in the introduction.
First, how about the degree of participation of learning of students when instructed directly with designed teaching/learning methods suitable to students by selecting related units in the class of 4th & 5th grades?
Second, which class is preferable to students when they have direct/indirect instruction or merely direct instruction?
The result on the studies were as follows.
First, through the survey the students’ participation to the class was significantly influent when received direct instruction with designed teaching/learning methods suitable to students by selecting related units in the class of 4th & 5th grades.
Second, students responded in the survey that they preferred to have merely direct instruction than direct/indirect instructions.
Thus, classes conducted with designed teaching/learning methods by combining subjects of relating units were effective in the interest and participation more than general multiple graded classes.
However, there were also difficulties of composing and developing the teaching/learning methods by combining subject every moment in the consideration of students’ level in the each grade.
Therefore, it is assumed that more effective and various researching and developing materials for teaching English in the multiple graded classes were required.
