Abstract
This study investigated middle school student’s anxiety level in th native English-speaking teacher’s classes. The participants of this study were 480 students who included 205 boys and 275 girls in 2nd and 3rd grade. The questionnaire consisted of a background question and the modified Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (Horwitz, 1983). The study's research questions were as follows: 1) Do middle school students feel anxiety in native English-speaking teacher classes? 2) Is there any difference of anxiety between boys and girls in native English-speaking teacher classes? 3) Is there any difference of anxiety between 2nd and 3rd grade middle school students in native English-speaking teacher classes? In this study, language anxiety was classified into communication anxiety, fear of testing /negative evaluation and negative attitudes for English classes. The findings of the first research question showed that unlike the previous studies on the foreign language anxiety, the students' anxiety level was not significant but still students suffered from fear of testing and negative evaluation. The findings of the second research question showed that there wasn't any significant difference of anxiety between the boys and girls but girls showed more anxiety than boys. The findings of the third research question also didn't show any significant difference of anxiety between the 2nd and 3rd grade middle school students.
