A Study on Realia for Middle School Japanese Textbooks
-Centering on Analysis and Development of Realia-

This study aims to analyse Japanese education focusing on two areas. One is to analyse textbooks to identify whether the present Japanese textbooks reflect contents of previous ones. The other is to analyse realia so that teachers can solve problems of textbooks through studies on realia.
For the purpose, the study analysed syllabus, design of covers, bodies and illustrations, characters, and composition of lessons of existing textbooks to discover their advantages and disadvantage focusing on identifying what to improve, domestic research on realia, and learners' needs.
As a result, it was discovered that the present textbooks are connected with each unit and culture, and present basic Chinese characters and sentence types. However, as they were not enough to satisfy learners, this study introduced realia developed for this study and some realia which is not introduced. The results of analysing the realia are summarized as follows:

①As materials with forms such as books, magazines, disposables and tickets were made based on teachers' experiences and learners can experience Japan indirectly and make access to live Japanese, a variety of materials can be made according to their needs, level and readiness.
②Video without forms can be made into realia according to learners' tendency and has advantages that it can be effectively used to teach Japanese as real scenes and situations are naturally used and it is good for beginners as Korean can be mixed with Japanese in it according to needs.
③For realia with multi-media games, learners can be interested in class and make an access to various types of Japanese through games in Korean or Japanese.
The realia having such characteristics is introduced in the study. Therefore, the study has a meaning that it can help learners be motivated to learn Japanese and make frequent accesses.
It is expected that the results of the study will be helpful for development of realia and learning Japanese, and for future studies on realia of Japanese education in Korea.
