ABSTRACT

A Study on the Educational Program for Popularity of Animation
- Centering on Clay Animation-

Animation has been given intensive investment as one of central industries in the 21st century. It has been applied for education as well as culture and industry. It has been recognized as an important content of visual communication industry and can be applied for various areas. Animation has been recognized as exclusive property of children. As current education on animation is considered only in primary, middle and high school art, it is suggested that it should be opened in university as one of liberal arts programs and usages of animation should be expanded. Therefore, this study aims to examine clay animation as one of animation genres to induce attention from various age groups and develop education programs for university curriculum which can encourage more people to enjoy culture and to have more interest in animation.
For the purposes, the followings were: First, the history and types of animation was identified and the developmental process of the basic clay animation was organized through understanding of the concept on clay animation. Second, the basic process clay animation is made was identified and characteristics and distinctive materials of animation were explained in order to induce attention. Third, characteristic goals, orientation and representative animation works of national and international famous studios were analysed. Fourth, educational programs as one of liberal arts program was suggested to expand animation culture. It was also suggested that clay animation programs for those who are interested in clay animation although they are non-professionals should be developed.
This study has a meaning in that it can induce more attention to clay animation through the educational program proposed and further provide learning opportunities to students who desire to be clay animators.
In conclusion, the current conditions in national and international clay industry were indirectly compared and described, and developmental directions for progressive growth of national clay animation industry were sought after.
