Abstract

ABSTRACT A Study on Seoha Im Chun's Chinese Poetry During Yurakgi in Sangju Area Kim Chong Hoon Adviser : Kwon Soon-yoel Litt.D. Major in Sino-Korean Literature Graduate School of Education, Chosun University King Gwangjong of Goryeo period is the first king who introduced the national examination system to our country. Military staff were isolated in various aspects by King Ouijong's political system which respected literature and oppressed military service. As they were humiliated by even civil ministers, they arose two revolts(1170 and 1173). Therefore, great change occurred in literature as well as politics, society and economy. Seoha Imchun was one of civil ministers who collapsed due to the revolts by military staff. Imchun found a shelter in Yechon, his hometown, for safe living of his family. Then, he moved to Sangjoo, Gaeryong and Myogwang. He was poor enough to barely sustain life under the administration of millitary staff. However, he did not lose Confucian ambition to become a pubic officer. Imchun stayed in the passages to Gaeryong, Chupungryong and Mt. Sokri to its west, and Mungyongsaejae, Sangjoo to its north in Myogwang, Gaeryong and Sunsan to its east and Seongjoo to its south. There he corresponded with friends while having an ambition to find the road to government service. However, his living was always not easy to make a living. In addition, as his ambition was not accepted, he unburdened himself through writing poetry. This study focused on some of his poetry written during Yurakgi: 25 pieces of Goyulsi, 1 piece of Gi and 1 piece of Gye. The most of poetry by Seoha Imchun frankly presented his personal conditions according to the flow of consciousness. In contents. his poetry corresponded to his life. As he lived poorly and sadly for his whole life, he revealed his internal feeling honestly. In styles, he mainly wrote Goyulsi. It indicates that he refused to use modifiers or elaboration by respecting Chinese classics rather than sticking to conventions of poetry writing. His poetry is characterized by prose and citation. It is both a disadvantage and an advantage. There are some cases that expletives or connectives were used in a prose or the number of letters increased in one line, or concepts and facts were described in a style of prose. It is not indirect and configurative presentation of emotion and facts. So, his poetry is monotonous and stiff. He appropriately cited knowledge and historical facts he acquired when he was young from instruction of classical Chinese, which raised his poetry up. He was reputed as a literary person and poet who expressed his feeling frankly. Therefore, it was discovered that he gave meaning to his life with confidence in his material of poetry while he made a poor living. Also he expressed his feelings frankly, not sticking to styles or rules of poetry writing. Such style of poetry can be considered as a new literary world. In respect to Imchun's literary view, it was suggested it was an ancient culture of poetry and literature. This study reviewed Chinese poetry literature centering on friendship he had in temples or other places based on 󰡔Seohajib󰡕 during Yurakgi(1174~1181).
