- Abstract
- As with all of any age, culture and race, music has always been together with human beings. People can deliver thoughts and feelings, or receive them through music, and even beyond the level of language. music enables human beings to communicate with each other. So the music in our lives is a very important part, which can not be separated. Among them, music's appreciation area is a fundamental part of all music activities, which can be seen even more important.
This paper was to observe how the curriculum has been, reformed. by comparing and analyzing music appreciation part in 3rd grade's music textbooks of the middle school in the 2007 revised textbook. The purpose of this aims to help utilize one of basic materials in selecting pieces for music appreciation by anylizing the issues and improvement presented in the 2007 revised curriculum.
Prior to analysis, as theoretical background, the transition of Korean traditional music and its curriculum was observed. Analysis was to check the appreciation music's listed contents of the traditional music and Western music with focus on the appreciation area of music textbook in third grade of middle school by the 2007 revised curriculum, and each ratios and contents of appreciation music were analyzed by times, genres and composers.
As a result of analysis, the results of appreciation area in third grade of music textbook in middle school showed that, when it was seen on the whole, there was much difference by textbook and the portion of Western music was higher than that of tradition music in general.
In addition, when divided by times, it showed that the contemporary music's portion in Korean music was higher than existing traditional music, whereas in case of Western music, music of the romantic school and the Baroque period occupies higher portion. By presenting the music of various times and eras. students can be given more opportunities for music appreciation.
Finally, in order for staelents to cultivate a creative expression ability and to talce the appreciation class with rich emotions, teachers should marce. the class more active and effective by utilizing multiple educational tools and materials. Additionally, it is most important to choose the textbooks properly for effective teaching. Teachers should set up a systematic appreciation guide plan in accordance with curriculum by selecting the appropriate textbooks in their class or by referring to other textbook if there are insufficient parts in them.
