With instrumental classes, learners can take an active part in the class, and the class helps them to be motivated and interested in music. Moreover, students get to have both broad musical activities and experiences feeling emotional stability. Therefore, I'm going to see if the goals and contents required by the curriculum by comparing and analyzing the instrumental parts of music textbook for seventh grade revised by curriculum in 2007 in this thesis. After that, by emphasizing the importance of instrumental education, I will offer the guidance for better instrumental classes in middle school.
The conclusion from the analysis is as follows:
First of all, the number of the whole songs counts up to 425 in the textbook. Among them, that of instrumental music is 136, so it takes 32%.
When it comes to Korean and other countries' instrumental music, the percentage is 61% versus 39%, which means there are a large number of Korean instrumental music and the revised curriculum 2007 focuses on qualitative improvement of learning Korean traditional music and specification of contents of Korean traditional music.
Second, there are various forms of performance in Korean and foreign instrumental music without weighting toward one side.
Third, the whole number of instruments used in instrumental music is 41, and out of it there are 10 Korean traditional instruments. It means that its kind is less various than that of the thematic songs. On the one hand, 6 rhythmic instruments are presented, and learners are offered opportunities to elicit their creativity and enjoy music outside classrooms by reconstructing songs using a lot of media through those instruments.
Fourth, the instruments with the methods of performance take 39% out of the whole instruments in the textbook. Thus, it is necessary that dealing with the methods of performance in the textbook for better understanding and skills to play.
Lastly, methods of the guidance for effective instrumental classes are presented based on the analysis above.
Through this results, I hope that students participate in the instrumental classes actively with the change of the forms of thematic songs, the kinds of musical instruments and the methods of play, and teachers struggle and make efforts to make their classes effective.
