지적장애인에게 적용된 원예활동의 치료적 효과에 관한 문헌고찰

Abstract

This study set out to analyze intervention studies that applied horticultural activities and therapy to individuals with intellectual disabilities among the dissertations for a master's or doctor's degree and the papers published in journals from 2000 to the end of 2009. It also aimed to draw a current picture of those studies and propose directions and methods for further development. For those purposes, the investigator searched and collected related papers and included total 50 papers(39 dissertations for a degree and 11 papers published in journals) in final analysis. As a result, a certain pattern was observed in the papers about interventions related to horticultural activities and therapy applied to individuals with intellectual disabilities; there were many dissertations for a master's degree; studies were designed and interventions were taken usually by special education teachers at special education schools, welfare centers for the disabled, and living facilities for the disabled and horticultural experts; about 13 tools were used in a pre- and post-test; and there were also tools that were revised, supplemented, and created according to the researches to generate results. The investigator examined the effects of horticultural therapy in four areas, namely the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical area, segmented each of the areas further, and checked their frequencies in the subject papers. Based on the numbers, it was the emotional area that was most researched, and the physical area accounted for the smallest portion of the researches at 11.16%. Each of the areas was then further examined for the parts with the biggest number and the parts with the smallest number with regard to the effects of horticultural therapy. As a result, clearly rich research efforts were invested in effects of technical training and increase of vocabulary of the intellectual area, improvement of interpersonal relationships of the social area, increase of confidence, pride, and control of the emotional area, and maintenance of balance and improvement of eye-hand coordination of the physical area.
