Abstract
The importance of math education, which helps improve the abilities of logical thinking and problem solving needed for people of modern societies, is increasing more than ever. Especially, the education on building functional thinking is much more important than anything else.
For this aim, in the thesis I looked into the concepts and theoretical backgrounds of functions and changes in the aims of teaching functions in the national education courses focusing on middle school which is the starting point of functional education.
Especially, in the revised 7th education course, the concepts of functions changed from the dependency function of the original 7th education course where two quantities change according to proportionalities to the reaction function as to the dependency function where the other quantity is decided one by one as one quantity changes. I tried to compare and analyze these two education courses, the original 7th education course and the revised one, focusing on the different textbooks and teachers' guides of middle school. I also intended to present efficient teaching methods that help students have the concepts of functions.
