ABSTRACT

The effects of expressive activity program in daycare class on adaptation to school life and the aggression of elementary school children

This study demonstrates how the physical expression activity influences to the aggression and the adjusting to school of the elementary school students. Moreover, it is the goal of this study to offer the basic material to lessen the aggression and adjust to school desirably. The followings are the hypothesis for this study.

The hypothesis 1. The physical expression activity in the childcare classroom might be effective in lessening the aggression of the elementary school students.

The hypotheis 2. The physical expression activity in the childcare classroom might influence to adjusting to school of the elementary school students.

The 20 students in the childcare classroom in the "M" elementary school located in Buk-gu, Kwangju-city were chosen as the experiment group and the comparison group consists of 20 students including 20 students of the "M" elementary school located in Kwangsan-gu, Kwangju-city. The procedure of the experiment is conducting the physical expression activity program two times a week, for 6 weeks -12 times in all- , which each time took 40 minutes.

The tool employed to measure the aggression of the students in this study was what was modified for the level of the lower grade and the two elementary school students with the help of the academic adviser (the professor), which were 30 questions applied with 'the four-steps calmness criterion' of Likert and the 5 factors including the physical aggressions, the linguistic aggressions, the indirect aggression, the negativity and the irritability, which are the subordinate areas, with references of 'the examination of the aggression diagnosis' that is the part of 'the examination of hostility' developed by Buss and Durkee (1957) and 'the examination of the aggression desire' produced by Junggu Hwang (1994) with reference of the 'the examination of the aggression desire' in 'the theory of the desire' of Murray. After conducting the physical expression activity in the childcare classroom, the follow-up inspection was performed to both the experiment group and the comparison group with the same measuring tool used in the preliminary inspection.
The average score and the standard deviation were calculated in order to compare and analyze the front and the rear takeover of the data and it was analyzed by
verifying the independent expression.

This study tried to find out the effect of physical expression activity in the childlcare classroom influencing to the aggressions and the adjusting to school of the elementary school students and the followings are the conclusions got from the inspection.

The 1st, the physical expression activity in the classroom is effective in lessening the whole areas of the aggression level of the elementary school students.
The 2nd, the physical expression activity in the classroom is effective in lessening the subordinate areas of the aggression level of the elementary school students.
The 3rd, the physical expression activity in the classroom is effective in the whole areas of adjusting to school life of the elementary school students.
The 4th, the physical expression activity in the classroom is effective in the subordinate areas of adjusting to school life of the elementary school students.

It can be said that the physical expression activity lessens the aggression of the elementary school students. In addition, the physical expression activity has the positive effect on the good relationships between the teachers and the students, the relationships between friends, the attitude in the class and the obeying the rules
and makes students recognize themselves as the valuable beings through the procedures where they understand and accept themselves. In this point, it can be said the physical expression activity in the childcare classroom is needed in the field of the elementary education.
