박태순 초기 소설 연구

박태순은 도시의 계층화와 소외된 빈민들의 문제를 냉정하게 비판하는 실천적 지식인의 모습을 적극적으로 담아낸 리얼리즘적 경향을 대변하는 작가로 인식되어 왔다. 작가로서의 사회적 책무를 진지하게 모색하고 사회 운동을 벌였던 70~80년대에 집중된 연구는 박태순의 작품에 대해 총체적으로 접근하는데 어려움을 갖게 한다. 박태순 초기 소설에 대한 연구는 작품의 모더니즘적 특성을 밝혀내는 동시에 도시적 감수성, 개인의식의 각성, 자아 정립 등의 문제에 대한 작품을 썼던 작가가 언제, 무엇을 계기로 민중의 발견으로 이행되어 갔는가에 대한 의문을 제기할 수 있다. 이러한 의문점 해결을 통해 박태순의 작품을 재조명할 뿐만 아니라 60년대 문학에서 70년대 문학으로의 이행과정을 함께 볼 수 있다. 1960년대 박태순의 초기 작품인 「공알앙당」,「연애」,「서울의 방」,「동사자」등에서 모더니즘적 작품의 특성인 내면세계의 탐색, 기존의 인간관을 부정, 새로운 자아의 정체성 정립, 주관적인 시선, 인물의 행위나 사건의 무의미성을 찾으며 그의 초기작들이 그간의 평가와 다른 면모를 지니고 있음을 확인 한다. 또한 4 ‧ 19혁명 안에서의 군중의 폭력성과 공포, 입장에 따른 인간들의 다양한 행동 차이들을 그린 「무너진 극장」을 통해 혁명에 대한 박태순의 양가적 감정을 확인할 수 있으나 결말 부분의 두 차례의 개작은 박태순의 작품 세계의 변화를 뚜렷이 보여 준다. 이러한 박태순의 전회의 배경으로 1960년대 있었던 순수 - 참여 논쟁, 현실적 모순을 인식하고 그 개선을 위해 문학의 실천적 과제를 중시한 『창작과 비평』, 1970년의 「오적」 필화 사건과 그것에 영향을 받아 창설한 의 활동을 생각하였으며, '전태일 분신'과 '광주단지 사태'에 대한 르포는 외촌동 연작의 작품들과 맞닿아 있음을 확인 한다. 리얼리스트로의 전회를 통해 본 박태순의 문학은 60년대 후반에서 70년대에 이르는 시기에 우리 문학의 자기 분화 과정을 전형적으로 보여주었다고 평가할 수 있으며 60년대의 작가들과 다른 길을 걸어온 박태순의 문학사적 의의에 대한 연구의 필요성을 느낀다.|ABSTRACT

A Study on Park Tea Soon's Early Novels

Park Tae Soon has been recognized as an author who speaks for realism in criticizing problems of social tiering and isolated poor. However, as previous studies have focused on 1970s-1980s when he actively participated in social movements to find social responsibility as an author, it was difficult to generally access to his novels. Studies on his early novels can identify modern features of his novels and present questions on when and how he changed his focus into discovery of the public though he had written about sensitivity, personal awareness and finding proper identity. By answering the questions, this study can shed new light on his novels and understand the process that literature in 1960s changed into literature in 1970s. 「Gongalangdang」,「Love」,「The Room of Seoul 」and「Dongsaja」which are his early novels of modernism in 1960s have search for internal world, negation of existing views on humans, development of new identity, subjective views, meaningless behaviors and events, which show that his early novels have different aspects from previous assessment. His ambivalent feelings are seen in 「Collapsed Theater」which describes violence and fear of the mass and different behaviors according to positions in April Revolution, but it was twice adapted, which definitely showed his change in writing. It was suggested that the backgrounds of his change were a debate on innocence-participation in 1960s, participation in『Writing and Criticism』 which focused on practical task of literature to recognize and overcome real conflicts, 「Ojeok」, an indiction for his writing, and which was founded due to the indiction. It was confirmed that reports on 'Jeon Tae Ill' 구s Burning Himself and ' Gwangju Danji Satae' are related with his series works. Park Tae Soon's literature examined through his change into a realist is understood that it showed the process of self-eruption of our literature from late 19670s to 1970s and it is suggested that more studies on the meaning of his different literary history are needed.
