ABSTRACT

A Study on the Relationships between Japanese Education and Japanese Popular Culture

Language arises from cultural background and develops in accordance with cultural situation . As each country has its own unique language, different linguistic habit is formed . Therefore, foreign language education requires culture based education as well as language based education.
This study aims to find out what relationships Japanese popular culture has with Japanese language learning effects by not only examining the concept of Japanese popular culture but also understanding the types of Japanese popular culture introduced to Korea.
The conclusions of this study are as follows.
First, a language is the most typical and effective means to communicate . In addition, the culture of a country can be represented through a language most appropriately. Therefore, it is essential to understand the language of a country in order to understand culture of a country. In addition, understanding the culture of targeted language zone is closely related to studying the language targeted appropriately. In order to develop communication skills, it is very important to understand linguistic expressions that are closely related to society and culture . Therefore, culture is essential element in learning languages as communication skills need social and cultural background.
Second, the those wishing to learn Japanese language have the intention to learn Japanese language through mass media of Japanese popular culture they prefer . Therefore, making good use of Japanese popular culture will help learn Japanese language . Providing the good opportunity to experience Japanese culture through mass media of Japanese popular culture can enhance learning efficiency of learners of Japanese language.
Third, in Korea, learning Japanese language through mass media of Japanese popular culture is not satisfactory yet so far. Learners of Japanese language recognize that understanding Japanese popular culture through mass media will help them to learn Japanese language but as they do not fully know how to make use of it, they have difficulty in learning Japanese language through mass media . Therefore, developing the way to learn Japanese language through mass media of Japanese popular culture is urgent. In addition, making people having easy access to Japanese popular culture through internet can help learn Japanese language.
