한국소설에 나타난 장애인관 연구

Abstract

The disabled people have the rights of dignity as human beings from their birth and have the same right with the non-disabled people in spite of the cause, characteristic, and extent of their disabilities. Also, they are people who should be enjoy their civil-political rights as well as economical, social, and cultural rights. However, because of the oppressing social structure and argument, it is very hard to exert their rights and receive lots of discriminations. To solve the disabled people's problems right, lots of things should be improved. Establishing the positive image of disabled people is one of them. There can be many different ways to establish it and since the literature is a result of reflecting the phenomenon of this times and life of people, studying how disabled people are described in the literature should be meaningful to establish their images. This study, therefore, researches 14 Korean novels between 1980 and 2007 to find out the followings. Firstly, what are the disable types and their causes in the Korean novels between 1980 and 2007? Secondly, I analyzed their professions, level of education, love and marriage, and social activities to find out how their disability involved in their lives in the relation with non-disabled people between 1980 and 2007. Thirdly, I figured out how non-disabled people see the disabled people in the Korean novels between 1980 and 2007. Fourthly, how the disabled people react for their disabilities. Fifthly, I studied the changed image of disabled people after 1980 through comparing previous studies(Kim, Kwang-Sun, 2002; Hwang, Yong-Ha, 2004). The result shows that as the cause of the disability was a part that we could be able to have a look at the changes of that times. The Korean War related disability was reduced but new torture related disability raised during the tyranny and dictatorship times. In their professions, they worked according to their ability, interests, and aptitude, so there was a positive change through working hard on their jobs. In education, I could find that there are still not enough educational chances compare to the non-disabled people. There were, however, some new perspectives on the disabled people showing some positive attitudes even though they are disabled and I could see their families positively trying to heal their disabilities and positive attitude changes accepting and perceiving their disabilities.
