Abstract

In〈Parkssijeon〉as a heroin novel, normal characters coexist with unreal characters who produce fantasy. So, it is an appropriate novel to discuss fantastic novels.〈Parkssijeon〉has fantasticality in events and structure involved in characters and space by combining the descending motif with the transformation motif. The fantasticality has three meanings: First, it is fantastic. Basic principles of the. work were completely inversed with a structural quality of arrangement of emotional response and effects. Second, it is a fantasy in lowercase when psychoanalytic thoughts of achievements of hopes appear. Finally, the Fantasy in capital letters means works where fantasticality is the central structure of the text. That is, it is a genre of fantastic literature focusing on fantasticality. Fantasy has been naturally mixed in literature. 〈Parkssijeon〉is a novel having all the meanings of fantasy, revealing mental triumphant consciousness and oppressed desires after our nation was defeated by foreign invaders in Byeongjahoran. Jukgang motif means that Mrs. Park committed a crime in the heaven and was expelled to the earth. She married Lee Si-baek, but was ill-treated by his husband and parents-in-law because she had ugly-looking. However, she was approved by them through the horse story, the ink water container story, and the court-dress making story and three years later she transformed. She recovered her pretty looking with a help of her father, cleaned conflicts with family, and regained love of husband. The desire to overcome inferior looking at that time appeared through fantasy. Mrs. Park built Pihwadang to escape ill-treatment of parents-in-law after she was married and lived there. The pavilion was a place of fantasy where she planted mystical trees, resolved the conflicts In family, and predicted the future. It was also a place of mental triumph to inverse the historical defeat of Byeonghajoran and she won a victory at a battle with China by exercising magic. In respect to transcendent characterstics of characters and events, Mrs. Park predicted invasion of enemy, ordered Gyehwa to kill 100 soldiers and defeated them by lightening. 〈Parkssijeon〉 resolved the desires of our people that we won a victory mentally though we defeated in history, and the transformational fantasy revealed consciousness of women on appearance at Joseon period. So this study concluded that〈Parkssijeon〉is an exciting novel through which we can guess the desires of the people at that time.
