구스타프 클림트 회화에 나타난 에로티시즘에 관한 연구

Abstract

The policy of capitalism and imperial colonialism dominated the world at the end of the 19th century, and there appeared many changes such as conflicts in ideas, the gap between rich and poor and so on within Europe. Under this circumstance, the artists in Vienna influenced by Psychoanalysis of Sigmund Freud(1856～1939/Austria), which studied the inner world of human mentality, excluded existing facts and raised the level of art of Eroticism, selecting sexuality as the main theme by emphasizing humanity and a psychological aspect. This art is expressed through a human body and transformed to a various form by the phases of times and an artistic value, that is, writer's consciousness and the factors of a social change. The sexual expression in art was under a lot of constraints in ancient and medieval times but has begun to be expressed freely and directly these days. This thesis has the purpose of analyzing the works of Gustav Klimt(1862～1918/Austria), which particularly used Eroticism as his main theme among the influences of paintings which variously appeared as a decadent phenomenon and understanding Eroticism in depth which is treated as a main theme in art, studying characteristics of his works that are popular with contemporaries. Gustav Klimt introduced a symbolic image to sensuality and fanciness and expressed woman's image in a view quite different from a present one as a siren through a goddess and a heroine in a myth. In his works of Eroticism, he depicts them fantastically, adding rhythmical, delicate and fancy factors. The present sexual culture is showing the tendency of commercializing sex more provocative due to the progress of a video medium. Under this circumstance, the reason that the works of Klimt's Eroticism gain much sympathy from contemporaries is seemed to be that they clarify human loneliness and a mental aspect in contemporaries' empty mind seeking only sexual pleasure and express Eroticism creatively with containing his own philosophy.
