- Abstract
- This study was conducted to examine South Korean high school students' understanding on the chemistry terminologies used in North Korean science textbooks. The degree of understanding by gender on North Korea's was investigated. The 40 terminologies, by Lee(2004), from the North Korea middle school chemistry textbooks were implemented for the South Korean high school students' understanding on them. The total of 181 high school students were participated in this study.
The students in K Boy's high school have about 54.4% more correct understandings on the terminology in South Korean textbooks than on those in North Korea. The male students seem to understand more than that of female's. Most of the scientific terms in South Korean that are derived from the Chinese characters and imported foreign language terms are more easier to perceive than those of North Korean derived from only the native Korean language.
