A Comparative Study on the Chemistry Textbooks between South and North Korea, and Preservice Science Teachers' Understanding on Chemistry Terminologies

The purpose of the study was to compare and analyze teaching units of science curriculum and chemistry textbooks by studying the organization of subject matter and content scope and level of chemistry in South and in North Korea. Moreover, this study was conducted to examine South Korean preservice science teachers' understanding of scientific terminology used in North Korean middle school chemistry textbooks. These nomenclatures are mainly picked up in chemistry textbooks of North Korea.
There are several different features between South and North Korea: Separated science curriculum subject organization; economical weighted format and organization of science subject matter; result-centered experiments; the variety of teaching methods; and the enlightenments of the President in North Korea.
The 40 terminologies from the North Korea middle school chemistry textbooks were implemented for the South Korean pre-service science teachers' understanding on them. The mean of South Korean pre-service science teachers' right understanding is 62.16.
In the future the fact that the common point of South and North Korea scientific terminology preparing in the unity which will be and searching what sees means will be important.
