초등영어교육에서의 문화지도 방안

- Abstract
- This study aims to present a new direction of elementary school English education to improve communicative skills through effective cultural education. The main goal of English education in elementary school is to improve basic skills of communication and the skills may be improved by understanding social and cultural background of the countries where English is spoken. So, learning focusing on simple linguistic expression is not sufficient to improve communicative skills. Therefore, education of culture in elementary schools is getting more important. This study analysed communicative skills, circumstances, expression and cultural factors based on public English textbooks used in the 7th curriculum. It also analysed the frequency of cultural factors presented in textbooks. The analysis presents the following suggestions on effective cultural education: First, various cultural circumstances through textbooks and reference books should be understood for proper cultural education. Second, Korean culture and target culture should be included in textbooks for organized understanding of their own culture and target culture. Third, training for teachers should be quantitatively and qualitatively improved. Fourth, appropriate data of education and various teaching plans for elementary students should be prepared.
