Abstract
This study aims to identify the problems relating to psychiatric clinic service and prepare high-quality service through researching the current status of the child psychiatric clinic service and satisfaction and recognition of parents whose children have disabilities.
This study presents the three questions to be considered:
First, how is the current status of child psychiatric clinic service?
Second, how is the satisfaction in the clinic service of parent whose children have disabilities?
Third, how is the recognition of parent whose children have disabilities on the clinic service ?
This study interviews 117 parents whose children are taking service in four child psychiatric clinics in Gwangju city using a questionnaire and analyses a total of 93 copies of answers except those that can not be analysed. The questionnaire consists of four chapters of twenty questions as follows: 16 items on basic matters of parents, family and children, 8 ones on use of child psychiatric clinic service, 12 ones on satisfaction of the service, and 4 ones on recognition on the service.
The results of the study are considered as follows: First, in respect to use of the clinic service and basic matters, most of the parents are housewives, have religion, and have children below eight, and most of the children have disabilities in language and learning. The mean period of clinic service is 20 months, and they are usually taking service in language in groups. It is demonstrated that they usually pay an average of 290,000 every month for the service and select their clinics by recommendation.
Second, the parents are normally satisfied with registration, facilities and administrative procedure of their clinics, but somewhat unsatisfied with the expenses. It is found that they are normally satisfied with the service program and there is a high demand of parent education. It is also found that they are highly satisfied with teachers who provide clinic service personally.
Third, in respect to recognition of parents having children with disabilities on child psychiatric clinic service, the parents have high degree of recognition on financial burden and positive change of their children. In appropriateness of the service, the majority of the subjects answer the service is appropriate. For the recognition on problems of the service, it is demonstrated that the parents recognize legal and administrative problems such as insurance, financial burden, and lack of parent education programs as the most serious problems.
