Abstract
As the modern society is increasingly oriented toward information society due to the revolutionary development of information technologies, more interest has been taken in the information obtainment by the low-vision. For the low-vision to obtain information, a PC and his access to it are the most important.
This thesis proposes the design principles and user interface the a developer should observe in developing a screen magnifier for the low-vision, and analyzes the previously developed screen magnifier programs using the assessment items based on the design principles and user interface. It also aims to identify the problems of korean screen magnifiers and suggest the improvements that should be made urgently for the better information obtainment by the low-vision. We also provide the directions that should be taken in the future development efforts.
Specifically, the most popular two programs which are used to domestic low-visions are Zoomtext8.1 and LV2002. I analyze the function of each interface and compare them. Then, I will suggest the improvements of the screen magnifier program for the low-vision.
The various problems cannot be solved by a single agency or organization. For the low-vision to secure their accessibility, not only should the related technologies and systems be improved, but also people should change their awareness for the matter and reach a consensus in the society.
