Abstract
Rosa rugosa is a flower that grows on beach costs in East Asian countries and is known to have medical benefits. However, the effects of this marine resource on brain functions have not examined adequately using an EEG device. Thus this study aimed to provide a theoretical framework and a literature review on brain activities and healing properties. Furthermore, this study aimed to present basic research results by examining how aroma essential oil affects brain functions among working women.
To conduct this study, an experiment was carried out based on 87 working women from April 13, 2020, to April 29, 2020. The 87 participants were divided into a group of 12~13 for measuring their brain activities. The aromatherapy sessions were provided to all of the participants. Their brain activities were recorded before going to work on the day of the experiment and after receiving the therapy sessions.
The results of conducting experiments showed that there were significant differences between the experimental group and the control group in terms of the following: the self-regulation index, basic rhythm index (left and right), activity index (right), emotional index, anti-stress index (right), left and right brain balance index, and brain activity index. In contrast, no significant differences between the experimental group and the control group were found in terms of the following: the attention index (left and right), the activity index (left), and the anti-stress index (left).
The results suggested that the brain wave measurement of working women showed the effectiveness of using marine flowers that have healing properties. In terms of methodology, the results also suggested the potential benefits of using Neuroharmony, which is a relatively public-accessible brain wave measuring device.
The limitation of this study is that only full-time working women in office jobs were selected and non-regular women were excluded from this study. Hence, future studies can examine brain wave functions with varying intensity of participants' daily labor.
