내적관계를 형상화한 도자 표현 연구

Abstract

This thesis analyzes the form of conceptual and shape expression of works produced based on the emotions that occur in relation to others by the researcher, and is a study for the suggestion of the methodology of ceramic art expression on the non-visual element of inner relationship. Humans form identity through the relationships with others in a society. Relationships with others are based on interaction for communication and the emotions derived by them consciously and unconsciously accumulate in and affect people’s lives. The researcher started from focusing especially on the anxiety in the relationships with others and introspecting the causes of emotion. By expressing the "Shape of Relationship" in a formative manner, this thesis aims to reveal the researcher's self-reliance and form the human inner world, providing the basis for understanding the researcher's existence, and giving spiritual value to ceramic art as a medium of emotional metaphor. Thus, this thesis examines the relationship and anxiety addressed in psychology and philosophy through literature. Before anything else, it identifies life problems and relationship problems by dividing the influence of an infinitely connected relationship as a related being into the essential and inevitable aspects of human existence, the relationship and the type of relationship, into the stages of the meeting relationship and the brushing past relationship. Melanie Klein's object relations theory was applied for psychological analysis of the human interior for identity regulation, as well as the understanding of the nature of human existence about the relationship between I and Thou relationship, which is ideal human relationship according to Martin Buber's philosophy of relationship. The analysis of anxiety in the existential condition derived from the relationship examined the cause theory of anxiety about Freud's anxiety and defense mechanism, and derived the possibility of self-building through inner reflection through the aspect of anxiety in modern people.

Then the researcher looked at the works of contemporary artists who express relationships. The researcher looked into the works of the artists that express the oppression and self-consciousness in individual relationships and expression of oppression inherent in society as an ideological element, the organicity and essence of ego identity by shape elements, cyclicity and existence in interrelationships, and metaphors and fusion in expression expansion.The researcher focused on how the artists are looking into and expressing their message and the methodology of expressing the innate message of their works and expressing them in a structural way.

Finally, the intention and concept of the work expressing relationships due to the researcher’s anxiety was analyzed based on the theoretical perspectives of anxiety. Initially, the preceding works that were the background of the research work was analyzed, and the researcher’s view of work and the elements of shape of the relationship was divided into three parts by subject. First, the psychological distance from others due to anxiety caused by self-incongruence in social relations caused by the gap in relationships was dealt in the work. The form of self that is changed by external factors was shaped and the gap that occur in the relationship was expressed by uniform expression of the lines that are not connected in a ceramic form. Second, based on attachment anxiety in personal relationships due to the growth of relationships, the cycle of the beginning and end of the relationship was dealt with in the work. Destruction led to introspection, which was described in the work as reaching the process of self-building and idealizing. In relationships with others, the ego sought to contain the message of a lasting relationship in life by metaphorically visualizing the creation and extinction through fragmentation, cutting, creating a whole circle, and variations. Thirdly, the researcher tried to express own perception of existence through the motivations of the causative aspects of Fromm’s human relationship and the relationships with the inner self as the essence of the relationship. Summoning of fragmented past memories appears in the composite form of frame, thread, and researcher's relationships, and everything related to oneself is influenced by each other and completed life of the researcher is expressed in the work. This, in turn, was intended to give meaning to the coexistence of self-reliance and existence values through constant communication with others.

Through the consideration and analysis of the relationship as such, the following conclusions were drawn. The researcher was able to see the metaphysical aspects of organic change in the embodiment of the relationship in shaping it into a work of ‘the Shape of the Relationship’ through a serious exploration process of emotion derived from the relationship. In addition, the researcher was able to find new values and possibilities in own works and confirm that ceramic holds meaning as a medium of psychological expression. The willingness to understand and overcome negative perceived anxiety as a universal feeling of human being has helped the psychological growth of the researcher. Through this study, the researcher attempted to expand the concept and value of ceramic art by presenting the morphological expression methodology of relationship, which is an invisible element. Creative activities led to in-depth exploration of one's inner self, gaining mental stability and reflecting on one's identity. Therefore, this thesis emphasizes the meaning of sculpture as a medium that leads to reflective thinking by expressing the relationship of the researcher as a ceramic, and the researcher perceives it as something meaningful as an example of proposing a new concept in the field of expanded ceramic art.

To the researcher, ceramic work is a constant process of inquiry into own life. It is hoped that the study will open up new research direction in the design sector, along with the expression of ceramics linked to human psychology and social phenomena. The researcher thinks that the process of sublimating from reflections on relationships into works provides an opportunity to discover one’s own inherent possibilities. Also, the researcher believes that one of the conditions of art works is communication, so the researcher hopes that the audience will experience the time of thought and ventilation through their works and become a medium of communication through reasons. The researcher also sincerely hopes that this will contribute to moving toward a healthier and smoother society in forming relationships with others. |본 논문은 연구자가 타자와의 관계 시 발생하는 감정에 기반하여 제작된 작품의 관념적·형상적 표현 형식을 분석하여 내적관계라는 비가시적 요소에 대한 도자예술 표현의 방법론 제안을 위한 연구이다. 인간은 사회 안에서 타자와의 관계를 통해 정체성을 형성한다. 타자와의 관계는 소통을 위한 상호작용에서 비롯되며, 파생된 감정은 의식·무의식에 축적되어 삶 전반에 걸쳐 영향을 준다. 연구자는 타자와의 관계에서 특히 불안에 집중하고, 감정의 발생 요인을 내관하는 것에서부터 시작되었다. ‘관계의 형상’을 조형적으로 표현함으로써 연구자의 주체적 자아를 드러내고 인간의 내면세계를 형성하는 근본적 토대가 되어 연구자 존재 이해의 단초를 제공하며, 감정을 담은 은유의 매개물로 도자예술에 정신적인 가치를 부여하고자 한다.

이에 본 논문은 심리학과 철학에서 다뤄지는 관계와 불안에 대해 문헌을 통해 고찰한다. 먼저 관계적 존재로서 무한히 연결된 관계의 영향력을 인간 실존의 본질적 · 필연적 측면인 관계성과 관계 유형을 만남의 관계와 스침의 단계로 구분지어 삶의 문제와 관계 문제에 대해 파악해 본다. 마틴 부버의 관계 철학으로 참된 인간관계인 나-너의 관계와 타자 이해의 원간격에 대한 인간존재의 본질 이해와 더불어 정체성 규정을 위한 인간 내면의 심리 분석을 위해 멜라니 클라인의 대상관계이론을 적용하였다. 관계에서 파생되는 실존조건의 불안 해석은 프로이트의 불안과 방어기제에 대한 불안의 원인론에 대해 알아보고, 현대인이 지닌 불안의 양상을 통해 내면의 성찰로 불안을 통한 주체적 자아 형성이 가능함을 도출하였다.

다음으로 관계를 표현하는 현대미술 작가들의 작품을 살펴보았다. 관념적 요소로서 사회에서의 내재된 억압의 표현과 개인적 관계에서의 자의식 표출, 형상적 요소로 자아정체성에서의 유기성과 본질성, 상호 관계성에서의 순환성과 존재성, 표현 확장성에서의 은유성과 융합성을 표현한 작가들의 작품세계에 대해 알아보았다. 연구자는 작가들이 어떠한 시선을 가지고 자신의 메시지를 전달하는지, 작품에 내재된 심상을 전달하는 방식과 조형적 표현형식 방법에 주목하였다.

마지막으로 연구자 본인의 불안에 기인하여 관계를 표현한 작품의 의도와 개념을 불안의 이론적 관점들을 토대로 분석하였다. 먼저 연구 작품의 배경이 된 선행작품을 분석하면서 연구자의 작품관과 형상적 표현 요소에 대해 알아보았다. 관계의 형상 연구 작품은 각 주제별로 세 개의 파트로 나누어 진행되었다. 첫 번째, 관계의 간극으로 사회적 관계에서의 자기불일치로 인한 불안으로 타자와의 심리적 거리감을 작품에서 다루었다. 외부 요인에 의해 변화되는 자아의 모습을 형상화하고, 연결되지 못한 선의 일률적 표현으로 관계에서 발생하는 틈을 도자 조형으로 표현해 보았다. 두 번째, 관계의 성장으로 개인적 관계에서의 애착불안을 기반으로 하여 관계의 시작과 끝의 순환을 작품에서 다루었다. 파멸은 자기성찰로 이어졌으며, 이는 주체적 자아 형성과 이상적 관계 맺기의 과정으로 도달했음을 작품에서 다루었다. 타자와의 관계에 있어 자아는 파편화, 절단, 온전한 원형의 생성, 변주를 통해 생성과 소멸을 은유적으로 시각화함으로써 삶의 속의 지속된 관계의 메시지를 담고자 했다. 세 번째, 관계의 본질로 프롬의 인간관계의 발생적 측면의 동기와 본인 내면과의 관계를 통해 자신의 존재 인식을 작품을 통해 표현하고자 했다. 파편화된 지나간 기억에 대한 소환은 프레임, 실, 연구자의 복합적 관계 형상으로 나타나며 본인과 관계한 모든 것들은 서로 영향을 주고 받으며, 연구자의 삶을 완성함을 작품에 담았다. 이는 결국 타자와의 부단한 소통을 통해 주체적 자아형성과 더불어 존재 가치를 찾을 수 있는 관계의 공존을 의미부여하고자 한 것이다.

이와 같은 관계에 대한 고찰과 작품분석으로 다음과 같은 결론을 도출할 수 있었다. 연구자는 관계에서 파생되는 감정의 진지한 탐구과정을 통해 ‘관계의 형상’ 작품으로 구체화함에 있어 은유적 표현은 유기적 변화에 따른 방법론적 측면을 볼 수 있었다. 또한 본인의 작품 세계에 있어서 새로운 가치와 가능성을 찾고 도자기가 심리표현의 매개체로서의 의미를 지님을 확인 할 수 있었다. 부정적으로 인식되는 불안을 인간의 보편적인 기분으로 이해하고 극복하려는 의지는 연구자의 심리적 성장에 도움을 주었다.

본 연구를 통해 비가시적 요소인 관계의 형상적 표현 방법론 제시로 도자예술의 개념과 가치 확장을 시도하였다. 창작 행위는 본인의 내면에 대한 깊이있는 탐색으로 이어져 마음의 안정을 얻고 정체성에 대하여 성찰하는 경험의 과정이었다. 따라서 본 논문은 연구자의 관계를 도자로 표현하여 성찰적 사고를 이끄는 매개물로서의 조형의 의미를 강조하고, 확장된 도자예술 분야에 있어서 새로운 개념을 제안한 사례로서 의미를 지닌다고 본다.

연구자에게 도자 작업은 본인의 삶에 대한 끊임없는 탐구 과정이다. 이 연구가 인간 심리나 사회현상과 연결한 도자표현과 더불어 디자인 부분에서의 새로운 연구 방향성을 열어줄 수 있기를 희망한다. 연구자는 관계에 대한 성찰에서 작품으로서 승화하는 과정을 통해 자신의 본래적인 가능성을 발견할 수 있는 기회를 제공한다 생각한다. 예술작품의 조건 중 하나는 소통이라고 믿기 때문에 본인의 작품을 통하여 관객들이 사색과 환기의 시간을 경험하고 사유를 통한 소통의 매개체가 되기를 기대한다. 이 연구를 통해 타자와의 관계 형성에 있어 보다 건강하고 원활하게 소통하는 사회로 나아가는데 기여하는 바가 있기를 진심으로 바라는 마음이다.
