The purpose of this study is to explore the differences in complex PTSD symptoms according to traumatic bonding level between individuals who have experienced complex traumatic events. Traumatic bonding are paradoxical symptoms that arise under a complex trauma situation, and understanding traumatic bonding will help to understand the complex trauma symptoms of individuals who have experienced traumatic events.
The research hypothesis established for this purpose are as follows. First, is there a difference in the level of traumatic bonding depending on whether the relationship is maintained or not? Second, is there a difference in the symptoms of complex PTSD depending on the type of trauma? Third, is there any difference in the symptoms of complex PTSD depending on the level of traumatic bonding?
For the purposes of research, the following studies were conducted in this study: The study was conducted by online surveys using Google Form to adult males and females across the country. A total of 539 copies were retrieved, and the study was conducted with 211 copies, with 35% of the upper and lower levels of traumatic bonding being set aside from the questionnaires who responded insincerely, and the questionnaires who did not appear to have experienced a child abuse and date violence case. The measuring instrument used in the questionnaire were Korean-Childhood Trauma Questionnaire(K-CTQ), The Revised Conflict Traction Scale(CTS), Stockholm Syndrome Scale(SSS), and ICD-11 Trauma Questionnaire(ICD-TQ), Results analysis was performed using SPSS 25.0 for independent sample T test, and two-way ANOVA.
The main findings of the study are as follows. First, the level of traumatic bonding has been shown to vary depending on whether the relationship is maintained or not. In particular, the traumatic bonding of closed-relations group were higher. Second, There were differences in symptoms of complex PTSD according to the type of trauma. Dating violence groups scored the lowest in all factor, followed by child abuse and overlapping groups. Third, There were differences in symptoms of complex PTSD according to the level of traumatic bonding. The higher traumatic bonding group had more severe symptoms, and when viewed through partial eta squares, the traumatic bonding level had a greater impact than the type of trauma.
It is meaningful that this study has empirically studied traumatic ties, a paradoxical symptom that occurs under multiple traumatic events. It also indicated that traumatic ties were associated with more severe symptoms. Accordingly, through this study, we hope to understand the symptoms of victims who experience multiple traumatic events and to be used in various scenes for their mental health.
