Program annotation : L.v. Beethoven Piano Sonata No.30 in E Major, Op.109, J. Brahms Scherzo Op.4, J. Brahms Klavierstücke Op.118, Nos.2,5, G. Gershwin Three Preludes for Piano

In this dissertation, this researcher's graduation performance program "L.v. Beethoven Piano Sonata No.30 in E Major, Op.109, J. Brahms Scherzo in E flat minor, Op.4, J. Brahms Klavierstücke Op.118, Nos.2,5, G. Gershwin Three Preludes for Piano" have been observed. “Piano Sonata No.30, Op.109”is 3-movements work that expresses his late lyricism. The 3rd movement in a variation form contains a fugue variation in No.5 and long trills figuration in No.6 that characterize his late sonatas. “Scherzo in E flat minor, Op.4”by J. Brahms is well known as the first and only independent Scherzo in his piano compositions. In this dissertation, Brahms’s new musical terminologies that combined Classical and Romantic eras have been analyzed “Klavierstucke, Op.118” which consists of 6 movements alternating fast and slow tempi shares the similar aspect in converging two eras. In this dissertation“No.2, Intermezzo” and “No.5, Romanza” have been observed. G. Gershwin’s “3 preludes for piano”, all in ABA’form, features the Various jazz techniques such as use of blue scale, syncopation, swing rhythm, walking basses.
