키네틱 아트의 동적(動的)표현 특성에 관한 연구

키네틱 아트(Kinetic Art)는 20세기 초에 나타난 표현예술로, 출현한 지 100년이라는 시간이 흐르는 동안 움직임을 표현하는 조형예술에서 벗어나 키네티시즘(Kineticism)이라는 현대미술의 한 사조로 발전했다. 현재 키네티시즘(Kineticism)은 초창기 기계장치의 움직임을 중점으로 시각화했던 특징에서 벗어나 다양하고 복합적인 첨단기술의 발달과 함께 가상매체를 활용한 효과와 그 메시지 전달에 주안점을 두는 의미로 더욱 확장됐다. 본 연구는 연구자의 청구전시 작품 제작과정 분석을 중심으로 연구했다. 연구자는 저속감속모터를 동력기반으로 엔진형상의 크랭크축과 링키지를 연결한 그림자를 동반한 실제적인 기계적 움직임을 구현하여 동시대의 사회적 현상들을 재해석했다. 따라서 연구자의 키네틱 매체를 수제작을 통한 실제적인 동적요소의 물리적 표현을 통하여 어떻게 사회적 현상을 관객과 공감할 것인가에 대해 연구했다. 나아가 회전운동을 수직,상하 또는 왕복운동으로 하는 기계적 특성을 그림자, 빛, 소리등과 결합하여 운동 영역 공간을 확장시켰다. 본 논문의 연구 목적은 이러한 수제작 작품제작 공정에서 나타나는 여러 가지 기계적인 요소를 재정립하고 체계화하여 동적 표현을 적극적으로 활용하는 데 있다. 컴퓨터를 활용한 뉴미디어 디지털 아트 등의 발달로 쇠퇴한 키네틱아트를 현대적 기계적 메카니즘과 결합하고 실제적 움직임을 통하여 어떻게 아날로그적 감성 표현공간을 확장하고 관람자와 상호작용 관계를 연구했다. 본 고 에서는 동적 표현요소의 담론에 관한 철학적, 미술사적 접근을 통하여 시대흐름에 따른 동적표현요소에 대한 개념의 변화를 살펴보고 이를 통하여 동시대적 현상들의 표현의 조형적 의미를 규명하고자 했다. 또한 연구자의 작품의 철학적 배경과 기존작품과의 차별성을 정립함으로써 연구자의 작품세계에 대한 이론적 토대를 확고하게 다지고자 했다. 따라서 본 논문에서 집중적으로 고찰하고자 했던 문제는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 실제적 동적표현요소가 미술사적 측면에서 어떻게 논의되고 있는가? 둘째, 동적표현요소를 이용한 작품이 동시대 현대미술에서 표현하는데 어떤 의미를 갖는가? 셋째, 연구자의 작품에서 실제적 동적표현요소에 관한 탐구가 어떤 방식으로 구체화되어 확장되고 있는가? 이상 세 가지 논의로 압축될 수 있다. 이러한 문제의식을 중심으로 2장에서는 예술에 있어 동적요소에 대한 이론적 고찰을 통해 키네틱아트의 개념과 특성을 살펴보았고, 3장 1절에서는 예술이 테크놀로지와의 융합을 통하여 시대의 흐름에 따라 어떻게 변화했는지에 대하여 기계적 메카니즘에서 고찰했다. 2절에서는 입체적 움직임을 결합한 다양한 공간 확장의 양상을 띤 국내외 작가들을 선정하여 사례들을 분석했다. 4장에서는 위의 논의를 바탕으로 연구자의 작품들을 분석했다. 1절에서는 선재구조의 조형 형태를 작품구상 배경과 재료적 특성과 기법을 분석하고 2절에서는 작품제작과정 및 작품분석을 했다. 3절에서는 본인의 작품에서 나타나는 실제적 동적요소와 비 물질성의 결합을 바탕으로 형성된 확장된 실험적 공간을 분석했다. 본 논문은 그 동안 논의 되어왔던 비 물질적 동적표현요소와 물질적 동적표현요소에 대한 담론을 미술사적 측면에서 연구자의 작품세계에 관하여 고찰했다는 것에 의의가 있다. 단순히 움직임을 표현한 초기의 실험 작품에서 벗어나 시대의 현상을 연구자의 주관적 재해석의 결과로 관람자와 소통 할 수 있다는 시지각적인 공간을 탐구했다는데 대해 의의가 있고 그림자, 소리 등이 결합하여 공간 또한 확장된 연구결과라 판단한다. 본 논문에서 움직임의 동적표현요소의 변화를 미술사적 접근을 통해 살펴보고 실제적 동적표현요소를 활용하여 공간을 확장시킨 국내외 사례를 분석한 결과 앞으로 동적표현요소는 테크놀로지예술과 융합하여 더욱 폭넓게 연구되고 예술, 문화, 교육 분야뿐만 아니라 건축 공공 미술 등 실제 활용 가능한 다양한 양상으로 확대되고 응용되어질 것이다. 또한 이러한 시대적 변화 속에서 순수재료의 물성들을 통해 조형적 요소를 탐구하고 동적요소를 결합하여 동 시대현상을 표현하고자 했던 학문적 연구 노력의 일환으로 그 의의가 있다.|Abstract

A dynamic expression characteristics of kinetic art

Kinetic art, which is expression art emerged in the early 20th century, has been developed as a trend of contemporary art called Kineticism, escaping from formative art expressing movement. Kineticism has been extended to the meaning that focuses on delivering the effects and their messages using virtual media with various and complex advanced technology out of visualizing early machinery movement. This study examined the process of researcher's work production with its analysis. The researcher implemented the actual mechanical movement of low speed reduction motor accompanying shadow by connecting crankshaft of engine shape with linkage using electric power and reinterpreted contemporary social phenomenon. Therefore, this study examined how social phenomenon could be sympathized with the audience through physical expression of actual kinetic elements using kinetic media made by the researcher. In addition, the researcher combined mechanical characteristics of rotary movement with shadow, light and sound and extended the space of kinetic area. This study aims to reestablish and organize several mechanical factors shown in the process of manual work production and utilize kinetic expressions actively. It also combined kinetic art which has been declined due to the development of new media digital art using computer with modern mechanical mechanism, extended analog expression space through actual movement and examined interaction with the viewers. This study examined the changes of concept of kinetic expression factors through philosophical and art historical approach of discourse on kinetic expression elements and tried to reveal the formative meaning of contemporary phenomenon. It tried to establish distinction of philosophical background of the researcher's work from existing works and consolidate theoretical foundation of the researcher's works. For this, the present study focused on the following questions. First, how are actual kinetic expression elements discussed from art historical aspect? Second, what is the meaning of expressing contemporary art with the works using kinetic expression elements? Third, how is the research of kinetic expression elements in the researcher's works materialized and extended? This study can be summarized with the above three questions. Chapter 2 of this paper examined the concept and characteristics of kinetic art through theoretical investigation of kinetic factors. Chapter 3, Section 1 discussed how art has been changed through the fusion with technology and according to the change of period. Chapter 3, Sec. 2 selected and analyzed the works of artists home and abroad who have showed the space expansion combining kinetic movements. Chapter 4 analyzed the researcher's works based on the above discussion. 4 Chapter 4, Section 1 analyzed formative characteristics of line structure based on background of work creation and its materials and techniques. Chapter 4, Section 2 analyzed the process of work production and works. Chapter 4, Section 3 analyzed experimental space extended on the basis of the combination of actual kinetic factors and non-materials shown in the researcher's works. This paper will be significant in that it examined discourse on non-material kinetic expression factors and material kinetic expression factors from art historical aspect. It is also meaningful in that it explored visual-perceptual space to make communication with the viewers possible as a result of researcher's subjective reinterpretation of the phenomenon of contemporary world out of early experimental works expressing mere movements and further it was the results of extended space by the combination of shadow and sound. This study examined the changes of kinetic expression factors of movement through art historical approach and as a result of analyzing internal and external cases which extended space using kinetic expression factors, it was found that kinetic expression factors will be researched widely through the fusion with technology art and will be extended and applied to a variety of aspects including architecture as well as art, culture, education. Therefore, this study will be significant as a part of academic research to explore formative and kinetic factors through material properties of pure materials in the changes of the times.
