원형(原型:Archetype)이미지의 혼성적 표현을 통한 유토피아적 공간 연구

칼 구스타프 융에 따르면, 모든 인간에게는 내재적이고 보편적인 원형들을 갖고 있다고 한다. 이것들은 우리들 의식의 깊은 곳에 있는 것으로서 태곳적부터 유전되어온 원초적인 유형들이라고 말할 수 있다. 그는“원형이라는 용어가 종종 어떤 명확한 신화적인 이미지들 혹은 모티프들을 의미하는 것으로 오해되고 있다 ”고 말하면서, 그러한 이미지나 모티프들은“의식적인 표상들에 불과한 것”이라고 하였다. 다시 말해서, 원형이라는 것은“하나의 모티프에 대한 그와 같은 표상들을 만들어 내는 어떤 경향”으로서 이 표상들은 시대나 장소에 따라 다양하게 변할 수 있는 것이라 말한다. 본 연구자는 이와 같은 융의 원형 개념을 차용하여, 모든 인간들에게는 동서고금을 막론하고‘완벽한 이상적인 세계’라는 어떤 모티프에 대한 표상들을 만들어 내고자 하는 경향을 무의식 속에 갖고 있다고 생각한다. 따라서‘유토피아’라는 이상적 세계에 대한 모티프는‘원형이미지(archetype image)’라고 할 수 있으며, 이 이미지는 다양한 시대와 문화 속에서 각각 다른 방식으로 나타났다고 볼 수 있다. 나아가 본 연구자는 과거와 마찬가지로 오늘날의 시대에서도 이 시대에 맞는 유토피아가 필요하다고 여겨진다. 왜냐하면, 아직도 우리 사회는 곳곳에서 부조화와 어긋남이 나타나고 있으며, 이로 인한 각종 사회문제가 제기되고 있기 때문이다. 그리고 이러한 인식은 예술을 통해서만이 우리에게 효과적으로 전달될 수 있다고 본다. 이것은 예술이 감성적인 인식의 분야이기 때문일 뿐만 아니라, 무의식에 기초하는 유토피아라는 원형이미지는 예술적인 언어로써만 보다 잘 표현될 수 있다고 보기 때문이다. 그러므로 본 연구자는 오늘날의 시대에 적합한 표현방식을 혼성적 표현으로 보고서, 유토피아라는 원형이미지를 우리 시대에 맞는 혼성적 표현을 통하여 작품 속에서 나타내고자 했던 것이다. 이 작업을 굳건하게 만들기 위해서는, 과거부터 현재까지 유토피아의 관념이 어떻게 변화되어 왔으며 이것들이 미술작품에서 어떻게 나타났었는지를 추적해보는 것이 필요하다. 나아가 본 연구자의 작업의 흐름을 정리하고 이것이 앞으로 어떻게 전개되어야 하는지를 가늠해보는 것이 중요한 문제로 남는다. 지금까지의 미술은 반복적으로, 고정된 형식이 아닌 시대적 상황에 따라 요구 되는 새로운 표현 형식에서 전개되어왔다. 연구자의 작업 역시 미술계에서의 다양한 매체들의 변화에 발맞추어 행해진 것이라 할 수 있다. 이것은 예술과 사회의 관계에 있어서 예술이 중요한 역할을 해야 한다는 신념에 근거한 것이다. 이에 연구자는 유토피아의 원형이미지를 활용한 화면 구성을 통해 보는 사람들의 상상력에 자극을 줌으로써 유토피아에 대한 희망을 증대시키는 회화적 형식을 추구해왔다. 이미지가 나타나는 방식은, 선택에서 제작에 이르기까지, 다원주의의‘동시대성’과 함께 한다고 볼 수 있다. 그러므로 이것은 연구자가 보여주고 있는 화면의 구성 방식이 오늘날의 시대와 나란히 가고 있음을 의미하는 것이다. 이런 시도들은 과거와 현재, 미래뿐만 아니라 주변을 되돌아보고자 하는 사회적 의미를 함축하고 있는 것이며 현대사회 안에서 모두가 함께 꿈을 꿀 수 있다는 현실화된 이상향을 지향하는 것이라고 생각한다. 이런 점에서 원형이미지의 혼성적 표현을 통한 유토피아적 공간에 대한 연구자의 작업은 오늘날의 예술적 작업의 확장뿐만 아니라 그 가치에 관한 것이라 할 수 있다. 그리고 이 작업은 연구자만의 표현방법을 다양화하고 타 분야와의 융합을 모색하는데 있어서 중요한 토대가 될 것이다. 이것은 유토피아의 실현 유무가 아닌 인간 내부의 마음속에 유토피아라는 희망적이고 긍정적인 에너지가 계속 이어지도록 기여할 것이다. |According to Carl Gustav Jung, humans have inherent and universal archetypes in themselves. They may be primitive types that have been handed down deep from our consciousness. He said, “the term 'archetype' is often misunderstood as meaning certain definite mythological images or motifs”and such images and motifs are“nothing more than conscious representations.”In other words, an archetype is“a tendency to form such representations of a motif”and such representations may change diversely according to times or places. This study suggested that we have a unconscious tendency to form such representations on a motif of‘perfect utopia’for all ages and countries. Therefore, the motif of‘utopia’as an ideal world is an‘archetype image’and the image appeared differently in different ages and cultures differently. Furthermore, it is thought that we needs contemporary utopia that meets the needs of this time. We know that discords and conflicts exist here and there in our society, which are causing many problems and consider that such awareness can be effectively delivered to us only through art. Art is an area of emotional perception and the archetypal image of utopia based on unconsciousness can be effectively represented only with artistic language. Therefore, this study was to express the archetypal image of utopia by mixing components of the past and the present. To consolidate this project, this study investigated changes in the past and present concepts of utopia and how they were represented in artistic works. Then this study managed the flows of the investigation and future development. Art has been expressed in new ways situations need. It is never fixed. Therefore, this study tried to meet the changes in diverse media needed by art circles. It is derived from the faith that an artist should be a leader in relationship with society. Using an archetypal image of utopia, the researcher tried to stimulate the imagination in the people as it was believed that such painting style may increase hope for utopia. The images were contemporary from adoption to production. It shows that the painting composition style gets along with this time. Such attempt implies that we have to look back through the past, the present and the future along with our surroundings and pursue for real utopia where we can have dreams. In this respect, this work expressed utopian space by mixing of the past and present archetypal images and enhanced values of artistic works. Also it is expected that this study will be an important base to search for expressing methods and convergence with other areas and provide hopeful and positive energy of utopia for humans regardless of realization of utopia.
