Abstract
In this thesis, I study the ‘Literary Community’ which can be found in fictions of Bae Suah. This study is meaningful in discovering the uniqueness of Bae Suah’s fictions published since 2000. For Research, Michel Foucault’s concept of ‘Heterotopia’ and Maurice Blanchot’s ‘Community Of Lovers’ are used. Heterotopia is an imaginary cummunity that is implemented in art. It is also a concept that dictates the aesthetic experience of art. A community of lovers is a ‘anonymous power’ that occupies a place without such a place. For Blanchot, anonymous power means ‘friendship’. Friendship is the experience of ‘being together’ and ‘dying together’. A literary community is a place where this experience occurs.
The Fictions of Bae Suah were divided into three parts. First of all, The characters in the fictions(『The Essayist’s Desk』, 『A Self-Taught Student』, 『Unkown Nights and Days』) of Bae Suah are those who oppose the suppression of society. And I analyzed three fictions. The Fictions is titled 『North Living Room』, 『The Low Hills of Seoul』, 『Unknown Nights and Days』. The Fictions feature an ‘anonymous voice’. The anonymous voice produces A theatrical and musical mimesis. Through the discussion on the literary community called ‘The Reader World’, It was confirmed that the important value of the Fictions of Bae Suah is expressed through the aspect of the theme and form. Bae Suah has written a fictions in a way that does not form a hierarchy through sentences. This is a way of resisting all power relations. Among Bae Suah’s fictions, 『Donkeys』 are unique in that they function like a library of books containing all the time, age, form, and taste in one place in terms of form. Readers prefer the value of Freedom and Equality in the Fictions of Bae Suah. The Value is the Freedom Of Sex, Freedom of Thought, Freedom From the Crowd, ignored by the value of political Freedom. Bae Suah’s fictions are highly needed for reader who need to discuss various freedoms.
