Adult Attachment and Interpersonal Anxiety
: Mediating Effect of Self-Concealment

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether self-concealment has an effect on the relationship between insecure attachment and Interpersonal anxiety. This research was done by conducting surveys from 400 university students who are attending universities in G area. The scales used in the study were Interaction Anxiousness Scale(IAS), Multi-item Measure of Adult Romantic Attachment Experiences in Close Relationships-Revised(ECR-R) and Self-concealment. The hypothesis of the study was verified by correlation analysis and Hierarchical multiple regression analysis using SPSS 23.0. The results were summarized as follows. First of all, a result in the examination of the relationships among insecure attachment, self-concealment and Interpersonal anxiety is statistically significant. Second, insecure attachment affects self-concealment, Interpersonal anxiety. Third, self-concealment affects interpersonal anxiety. Finally, self-concealment was partially mediated between insecure attachment and interpersonal anxiety. The results of this study suggest that those with high insecure attachment tend to suppress the Interpersonal anxiety as the self-concealment increases. Finally, the implications and limitations of this study were discussed based on the results of the study.
