Abstract

This paper analysises about character shapes and finds out the features that appear in . Our main analysis is especially about character shapes for Wanggyeongryong and Okdan who are hero and heroine in . Also, this paper attempts to analysis about old woman selling gourd dipper and Changmo who are extras. Gyeongryong is the character who shows the immature figure mainly the beginning of the story. Expecially it clearly appear before and after meeting Okdan. He indulged the primrose way with Okdan and finally experienced humiliation that fells out his position by fell for the trick. Nevertheless, he still stay in immature figure demanding help. But, from in this experiences, starting accumulate growth factors, he shows that he become changed from his previous attitude. Through this way, reader find out his mentality becomes stronger. Also, by Okdan’s letter, he takes the chance to grow. And readers realize Gyeongryong’s growth. Okdan is the character who has identity that she is not gisaeng(Korean geisha). And this is highlighted along the whole story. Okdan‘s identity is predominantly shown as fidelity. And it can be said that does are connected each other. She is the character who whenever ready to kill herself for faithfulness. Nevertheless, she tries to live for metting Gyeongryong. Her identity become stronger by experiencing Jogo murder case. It is unconventional and could be intrigued popular interesting. There are two characters who play an important role among extras, they are old woman selling gourd dipper and Changmo. The former is an assistant and messenger for Gyeongryong and Okdan. Changmo is a villain on unique position in the story, and this is a type of character appeared first in the 17 century’s chinese romantic-novel. In this way, characters in the are described distinctly according to adaptor’s purpose trying to take advantage of flow on 17 century history of literature. Therefor, is well shown the feature of 17 century history of novel.
