Abstract
ccording to the National Plan for 4-River Water Management by the government, the pollutant load of nonpoint pollutant sources out of the entire water pollutant sources is estimated to reach approximately 22~37%. The influx of these pollutants into dams, lakes, rivers, and groundwater will pose a great threat to humans and the ecosystem. In particular, the flow of such water pollutants into tap water, which is the major source of drinking water, is a tremendously grave issue. In order to address this problem, water quality prediction techniques for dams, reservoirs, and rivers are recently being introduced for the prediction and preventive water quality management. Further, active application of technologies for water quality prediction around watersheds is in practice.
In the water quality adjustment, the % difference of the both points in terms of water temperature, DO, BOD, T-N, and T-P was 15% or lower. The adjustment was performed using the hourly measured data with the watershed model (HSPF) in the tap water resource protection area. All were very good, and it is thought that the watershed model can be applied.
Discharge and water quality were calibrated and validated using the PEST. The efficiency was assessed based on % Difference at a relatively similar level as the simulated results. The majority of them were rated as very good or Good. Therefore, the application of the PEST is considered to be possible.
The model efficiency results of the HSPF turned out to reflect the discharge and water quality well as both of them were rated as very good or good. However, nonpoint pollutant sources require a continued monitoring. Therefore, improvement of model reliability through much more monitoring data and database is required for the management of nonpoint pollutant sources.
