Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate effectiveness of a sexuality education program for the parents whose kids were in the low grades in elementary schools. Methods: A quasi-experimental with non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was conducted. The subjects were 29 couple(Experimental group=14. Control group=15), the parents of kids in the low grades in elementary schools in G city. The experimental group received a sexuality education, but the control group did not receive education program. Data were collected from July to August, 2015, using two self-administered questionnaires before and after the implementation of an intervention. The data were analyzed by χ2-test, Fisher's exact test, and mann-whitney u test. Results: Compared to control group, after the intervention, the experimental group showed significant differences in sexual knowledge (father U=1.50, p<.001; mother U=2.50, p<.001), attitude of gender roles (father U=34.00, p=.002; mother U=57.00, p<.036), parent-efficacy on child sexuality education (father U=26.00, p=.001; mother U=42.50, p=.006), dependent variables between father and mother(sexual knowledge U=68.00, p=.048; attitude of gender roles U=55.00, p=.023; parent-efficacy on sexuality education for children U=62.00, p=.039). Conclusion: This results identified that a sexuality education program for parents of kids in the low grades in elementary schools had a meaningful effect on the improvement of sexual knowledge, attitude of gender roles, and parent-efficacy on sexuality education for children. Thus, further study should be conducted with a larger and diverse group to confirm the effectiveness of a sexuality education program for parents of kids in the low grades in elementary schools.
