Abstract
Heo-Nanseolheon is a genius-like poetess who is representative of the Chosun Dynasty. She had created her own poetry style based on her unique perspective and outsight which are used for the phenomena observation of herself and her family. She was talent to exploit the literary imagination, and then used the poetry to reflect the lives of herself and her family. Typically, she had conveyed her thought via a background of the ideal society, and created her own poetry world.
In the middle era of the Chosun Dynasty, there a few number of woman used their fine sentiments to represent the plaintive lives by the way of poetry. Heo-Nanseolheon is one of the famous poetess during that period, and the poetry is the way used by Heo-Nanseolheon to reflect the sadness and suffering of her live. In stead of the Chosun Dynasty, her poetry was very popular in the ancient China at first. This is because her poetry not only described her own live but also reflected the sadness of current society and the suffering of females.
Generally in the Chosun Dynasty, most of the poetry created by literati only focused on the female's longing and emphasized the obedience of Confucianism. However, Heo-Nanseolheon wrote the poetry that is one step further than others to surpass the Confucianism without being bounded by the current social rules. Her poetry, on the other hand, described the immortal world of Taoism according to her life feeling which cannot be realized in the reality.
Heo-Nanseolheon was affected by her father, namely Heoyeop, and read a lots of literatures related to immortal because her father were an enthusiast of Taoism. Behind such a reason, Heo-Nanseolheon preferred to use poetry to describe the immortal fictions. Her poetry can illustrate a beautiful scene, including the amusement, pastime, marriage, and loneliness of the immortal world. And this kind of immortal world represents freedom and happiness.
In Heo-Nanseolheon’s poetry, she used the Taoist thought to decorate her their inner pain in the way of sublimate immortal world, and expressed her eager hope freely. At the same time, she expressed the longing and missing feeling of her departed child in the poetry and could have a reunion with her husband via dreams. Her poetry thus can be free of the social reality that soars beyond the time and space. The fantasy of immortal world is used to idealize the sadness and suffering; therefore, her poetry is a right media to express her feeling.
