As everyone knows, it was in 1970s that Korea was urbanized in a systematic and rapid way. A number of national projects were achieved based on the sacrifice of Korean. Because of the sacrifice, the Popular Literature, which was the mainstream of this time, addressed power as the resistance from the subordinate class rather than the domination from the ruling class. Despite this, it was not the time simply called as the time of totalitarianism or state violence due to mixed elements and aspects, and this dichotomous view on power left many inexplicable surplus areas. Choi In-Ho's early novels, which dealt with the inexplicable areas, focused on the power from micro view in contrast with the macro view from Popular Literature, so that they revealed the deep aspects of power within a person's daily life. Disciplinary power and bio-power were shown through signs especially in 'Probation Patient', 'Two and a Half' and 'Savage' and this was considered pioneering work at the time. Thus, this article will not only analyze and identify the aspects of micro-power in Choi In-Ho's early novels, but also focus on the phenomenon in which public space and private space start to blur especially in 'Masked Ball' and 'Scary Plural', analyze this in relation to the change of governmentality in that period, and propose a new possible appreciation on Choi In-Ho's early novels.
