Relationship between Mother's Marital Satisfaction and Child's Attachment Stability : Mediating Effect of Psychological Well-being

This study confirmed the mediating effect of psychological well-being in relationship between mothers' marital satisfaction and child's attachment stability. For this, it targeted 200 mothers who have children at Western age from 3 to 6 who are attending child care center where is located in Gwangju Metropolitan City. It prepared the questionnaire, which is composed of marital satisfaction scale, psychological well-being scale(PWBS), and attachment stability scale, by sending it to home, and carried out it with a method of collecting again through child care center. The collected data were analyzed by using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 20.0. Summarizing the results that were clarified in this study, they are as follows. First, mother's marital satisfaction and each of variables in psychological well-being and attachment stability showed significant positive correlation. This implies that there is high relationship between marital satisfaction and psychological well-being, between marital satisfaction and attachment stability, and between psychological well-being and attachment stability. Second, mother's marital satisfaction was indicated to have influence upon child's attachment stability and was shown to have influence even upon psychological well-being. Also, mother's psychological well-being was indicated to have influence upon child's attachment stability. Third, psychological well-being was indicated to have mediating effect in relationship between mother's marital satisfaction and attachment stability. Fourth, as a result of analyzing a structural model, the psychological well-being was indicated to have mediating effect in relationship between mother's marital satisfaction and child's attachment stability. This supported the outcome of hierarchical regression analysis. Also, as a result of comparatively analyzing between the partial mediation model, which is the proposed model, and the perfect mediation model, which is the competing model, the partial mediation model was adopted. Thus, the psychological well-being was indicated to have partial mediating effect in relationship between mother's marital satisfaction and child's attachment stability. This study confirmed the partial mediating effect in psychological well-being in relationship between mother's marital satisfaction and child's attachment stability. Thus, it clarified that mother's making happy and satisfactory marital life and the environment available for feeling satisfaction with the whole life are conducive to increasing child's attachment stability. In addition, it clarified new variable dubbed psychological well-being, which has the mediating function in relationship between marital satisfaction and attachment stability. Hence, there is its significance in having expanded the scope of research related to attachment stability.
