Effects of Pilates Chair Exercise
on Lower-muscles Strength in Menopeusal Women

The purpose of the study is to verify the effect of the Pilates Chair exercise program for 8 weeks on the lower muscles strenth in menopausal women.
The subjects of the study were women in middle-aged with menopause period that a total of 16 subjects were divided into 8 women with Pilates Chair exercise(Exercise Group) and nd 8 women with Control Group. Primary and after 8-week tests were examined body composition and lower muscles EMG and the following conclisions were drawn.
The body composition had no change weight, BMI, body fat percentage in both groups but Pilates chair exercise group had change skeletal muscle mass.
Regarding change in the lower muscles EMG, pilates chair exercise groupshowed signifiant increase in gluteus maximus, vatus lateralis, tibialis anterior, gastrocnemius(p<.01,p<.01,p<.001, p<.05). Especially in the tibialis anterior, there were a statistically significant difference between the groups after the experiment(P<.01).
In conclusion, Pilates chair exercise is a positive factor in improving skeletal muscle mass among menopausal women's body composition and lower muscles EMG and it can contribute to changes in skeletal muscle and an increase in leg strength as an important index of body composition.
These results suggest that the Pilates chair exercise program can be recommended for the menopausal women 's health.
