- Abstract
- Objective: Pregnancy and childbirth had changed serum lipid levels in women. Age at childbirth, menopause also had affected the metabolic syndroms in women. However, studies on korean women were still not enough and the results of previous studies were inconsistent. The object of this study was to investigate the associations between number of pregnancy, age at childbirth and dyslipidemia according to menopause status in korean female adults with firtility.
Methods: This study was based on the data from 6th(2013-2015) National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and were composed of examination, health questionnaire and nutrition survey. Among them, general characteristics, number of pregnancy & age at childbirth, dyslipidemia data were used. The subjects were the final 6.194 women aged 19 and over. Using data were analyzed by SPSS program. The statistical methods of analysis were frequency analysis, chi-square test, t-test, finally, after stratifying the status of menopause, multiple logistic regression was used to investigate the associations between number of pregnancy, age at childbirth and dyslipidemia according to menopause status in female adults with fiertility.
Results: In postmenopause, age at first childbirth that 19 years or less and the odds ratios(OR) for hypertriglyceridemia were higher significantly associated (OR=1.69, 95% Cl=1.14-2.50) than 25-29 years. And the lower age at first childbirth, had trend increased odds ratios(OR) for hypertriglyceridemia significantly (p-trend=.009). Age at first childbirth that 20-24 years and the odds ratios(OR) for low-HDL cholesterolemia were higher significantly associated (OR=1.36, 95% Cl=1.10-1.69) than 25-29 years.
Conclusion: In postmenopause, age at first childbirth were associated with hypertriglyceridemia, low-HDL cholesterolemia significantly. In conclusion, the lower age at first childbirth, had trend increased prevalance of hypertriglyceridemia, low-HDL cholesterolemia. These findings suggest that age at first childbirth may help to identify women at higher risk for dyslipidemia.
